Oh, I really like the ceiling fan in your bedroom! I am in the market for a few attractive ceiling fans with light that aren't totally tacky - anyone know the make of this one?

Thanks! We got all our lighting and fans at Lighting by Gregory on the Bowery. The fan in our bedroom is by Minka - it also comes in all chrome which is the color it shows in the link but we picked the wood and copper for our bedroom. The wall switch/settings it comes with is very cool and the light dims. Enjoy.

NYC's just mega-pricey. Either it's justified by supply and demand, or it's a bubble and will pop -- place your bets accordingly.
This one is so nice that I was mentally placing furniture for a bit there. It was one of those "If I had a slightly different life, gee, it'd be great to have THIS life" moments.

Glad to see the bedroom closets done that way.
I.e. Upper door openings cut into the wall above the actual closets so that you don't have to reach up and back inside the closet as you normally have to do.
This double width dumbell layout reminds me of another fsbo that we had on AT and it is great to have that much width in such a dumbell apt.
We re-did most everything, but lucky for us the closets were already there as is. All they needed was a fresh coat of paint. Our contractor's name is Anastasios: 212-722-8883. He was very nice and easy to work with, but we did a lot of the buying and design ourself to save costs.
That's a great garden! Does that built-in desk overlook it? I'm sure someone will snap up this apt. in a hurry.
I LOVE your bathroom mirror. Will you take it with you when you go? A beautiful place.
Jason - the desk/office does overlook the garden as does the dining area. Some folks on other floors have walled off the desk area to make it a separate office, but we have it open.
Jenny - the mirror is actually one of the only fixtures we are taking with us (we love it, too). I'm also very impressed with the apartment, and I think it's reasonably priced (for Manhattan).
I was a bit surprised, however, when I looked the address up and discovered that the apartment is between Avenues B and C. I mean, with an address like 198 East 7th Street, I would have thought that the building would be a little further West. Still, even for Alphabet City, I think it's a great home at a good price.
Your apartment is lovely. If I was moving to NYC, I'd definitely want to snap up your place. (maybe my Powerball ticket will come through tomorrow) Places like that sell in nanoseconds, right?
I have saved a picture of your closet doors because that's what I want for my house. We have similar space issues with the closet.

MG - we got the bed a while ago from a small furniture maker in San Antonio which I'm afraid is no longer in business (and to be honest, we didn't have a great experience with them -- it took months to get it and several miscommunications). However, a friend once admired it and I sent her to Gothic Cabinet Craft where she bought something similar. If you google "storage bed" you will see other makers like www.ultimatebed.com. What I liked about ours was that we could choose any Minwax stain (if I remember, we chose "Slate"). I think Gothic lets you order different wood-colored stains or you can just get it unfinished and then stain it yourself (perhaps if you provide the color you want they will do it for you). As for our bedroom, I had custom nightstands with drawers made locally at a place in Chelsea (the name escapes me right now) and mounted them on the brick wall so that they wouldn't interfere with the drawers opening and closing.
They have some funky fans at Lowes.
