Fumiki logo black.jpg A few times every year, we wander into Fumiki hoping against hope that there'll be something in there we can afford.

Fumiki-store.jpgFumiki specializes in high end 17th-20th century Asian furniture, art and accessories, including contemporary artisan-made pieces.

Everything is top quality, with price tags to match.

You'll find the big stuff: screens, large media centers, tables. The medium-sized stuff: desks, chairs, lamps, ceramics. And the small stuff: tableware, glassware, textiles.

Highlights include the work of artisan furniture makers and craftspeople like Roger Combs, John Kelly, and Kumiko Hayashi, all working in a modern, Asian-inspired vernacular.

If your goal is to incorporate just a taste of Fumiki's style into your home you could conceivably shop here without spending a fortune.

For about $200 you could leave with any of: a flask-shaped glass vase by Kumiko Hayashi, an antique hibachi that could be a fab coffee table if topped with glass, or a beautiful artisan washi lamp to quiet down the bedroom.

All can be purchased (or just ogled) online only for the time being. Fumiki has just closed their Sutter Street store and will be reopening soon in a new SF location.
