Although Urban Outfitters is more known for their clientele of bo-ho hipsters trying to latch onto the latest fashion anti-trend, there's far more to this giant company. Their furniture lines are perfect for those with small spaces to fill, but are still trying to go big on style.
The styles of Urban Outfitter's furniture spans all different eras of design. Some pull from Mid-Century inspiration, while others have a more Victorian or modern influence. Their prices run from reasonable to higher for more custom or quality items. A few of our favorite finds are pictured below, if you have first hand experience when any of them, make sure to leave a user review in the comments below.

Oh bummer. They had a couple of really cool sofa beds that I liked but I don't see them anymore.
I too am really curious about the quality and comfort of their furniture. Because it looks really cool!
Anyone have experience with the night & day sofa? I've always thought about buying it but I am afraid it will be bad quality.
I have the night and day sofa, I got it for 20% off too. It is very firm, my roommate complains about it. But it looks so nice. The quality is similar to what you would get from Ikea in the same price range.
Here it is on my flickr.

I saw one of the day beds in the store and it was far below IKEA quality. Very light weight, shoddy construction. I'd estimate you'd be lucky to get 1-2 years of every day use out of one of these.
Apart from crappy quality, UO was founded by (and is majority owned by) Richard Hayne who is a noted social conservative and gives millions to the right-wing causes and candidates (like former PA senator Rick Santorum). If you have an real sympathy for causes like marriage equality, combatting global warming, universal health care, etc you may want to think twice about shopping there.
I wanted to add, that if you sit on it for a long time, the foam compresses, and leaves a "butt-dent" where you have been sitting (even for the lightest 120lb gal).
I have had mine for nearly two years now, and it has held up well, but under fairly light use, of two careful adults and a small dog.
@kale, is the frame sturdy? I was looking at the mid-century sofa, and it only said that the frame is solid wood but not which kind. Similar descriptions applied for other sofa. The price is enticing. Did you test it out at your local store before you bought it?
I'm interested in using the Jet Set Storage Bench as a coffee table/ottoman. Unfortunately the Urban Outfitters in Seattle doesn't have this piece on their floor. Does anyone have any feedback on it?
Yeah, one of the contest entrants has that sofa, and I was admiring it, but I went to the UO website, and most of the reviews on there weren't particularly positive... ah well.
You get what you pay for (darn it).
There are a ton of bad reviews about those sofas, I was going to get one until I read what people had posted. Oh well, back to craigslist.
I just love their fainting sofas it would look so great in a sunny bedroom. But, questionable quality I'm assuming. Maybe more for looks than sitting?
My guess is that the fainting sofa may wear a little better since it's tightseat/back and tufted. Easier to hide some of the construction flaws than with a cushion seat.
Everything looks nice, but the construction is super shoddy on their sofas.
looks great but what i've seen at their store the quality does not look good. not even close to ikea.
"it only said that the frame is solid wood but not which kind"
It could be made from pine that was cut last Thursday - after all, that's "solid wood"...
...that doesn't mean it's suitable for use as a sofa frame.
You need Kiln-Dried Ash, at the very least.
Not Particleboard (IKEA), and not anything from UO.
Better to get a $500 sofa from Craigslist than one of these.
I have been looking at the jet set storage bench as well. But since they don't carry it in any of the stores, I am a bit skeptical to buy it without getting some feedback on it. Esp. with the shipping prices being what they are it would not be an easy piece to justify returning if the quality is low.
goonghaeng; the frame is made of pine and metal. It is constructed similar to a futon frame. It isn't super sturdy, I did by it from the store, not online. I paid under $500 for it on sale, including tax (mine didn't come with the arm cushions, so I guess it was a discontinued style).
The quality is comparable to low-end (same price range) Ikea stuff. I actually went to Ikea the same day, and decided on this UO sofa, over what they had. I would say you aren't going to get more then a few years of hard use out of it. That said, mine is 2-years old and like new.
I will say again that it is super firm. You need a lot of pillows to get comfy to watch a movie or something. My roommate hates this about it.
We have one in our apartment (see: Joe & Kara's Urban Feel in a Small Town), and we both love it. It's the perfect size for our small living room. We actually ended up buying the floor model (HIGHLY suggested if possible because we paid a mere $160 instead of $600!) and we were worried about the sturdyness of it because the floor model was pretty rickidy, but after getting it home we tightened the bolts which were only half screwed in and it hasn't given us a problem since. (It's also gone through a lot of wear and tear being a floor model for 6 months prior to our apartment).
It's obviously not going to be as comfortable as a plush couch... it's a more linear & modern style, but it's a really good looking piece and to our standards, pretty comfortable, as it serves as our only seating besides 2 arm chairs.
In the end if you are looking for a sofa/guest bed for a small apartment it's highly recommended from us!
Not sure I understand how Marketplace posts work. Are they commissioned by the vendor at all? 'Cause I assume they wouldn't be too enthused about having their customer base represented as "bo-ho hipsters trying to latch onto the latest fashion anti-trend", whereas if they're motivated solely from the author's desire to highlight a vendor, I'm not sure how convincing this is at not casting anyone who chooses to buy from UO after this as not "bo-ho hipsters trying to latch onto the latest fashion anti-trend".
I do like some of UO's interior decor/homegoods, though; I keep having to to convince myself that no, I don't really need X $50 chenille rugs to cover the entire floor of my apartment or anything....
marlamischief1, I bought a similar couch from UO almost 4 years ago. The quality isn't the best. Certainly not worth what they sell them for. One of the legs snapped off mine after about 6 months. I was able to find someone that could fix it, but it's still a bit wobbly and the foam has become quite worn out. In the future, if I was going to pay $600 for a couch, I'd make sure the quality was much better.
I've sat on these in the store, and they both look and feel terrible in person. The seams are totally wiggidywhack, they're super uncomfortable... just overall terrible construction. You'd be better off with ikea, or spending a little more for something that will last 20 years instead of 2.
I have the storage bench in the white Vinyl and I LOVE IT. It's so perfect.
I just got rid of my orange tweed "Jet Set" bench. It was sturdy, roomy, and pretty comfy to put your feet up on, but didn't work well as an ottoman (the fabric started to look raggedy). I saw the white one returned in the store and the material looked really cheap.
I think secret_agent says it all - if the owner of UO is Richard Hayne who is a noted social conservative and gives millions to the right-wing causes and candidates - then for get about the damn couches!
@ secret_agent & edgardo60:
good to know. but for opposite reasons, it's refreshing to hear he's conservative. it's so annoying, cliche and tired for design/ art people to be hateful toward conservatives.
I can't believe it has to be so hard to find a decent quality couch at an affordable price. Reinforces the concept of recyling by purchasing something used, except it costs a small fortune to have anything reupholstered -- so you're back into the expensive arena.
Some of the furniture is really cute, but I'm skeptical of the quality.
I especially love the mid-century rocker chair.
The interesting thing about these sofas is that they seem so shoddy. Yet UO is the sister company to Anthropologie. I guess that this is same as the whole Crate & Barrel and CB2 business model repeated.
As to Richard Hayne, the interesting thing about him is that I think he was married to Judy Wicks, owner of Philadelphia's White Dog Cafe and noted liberal.
OhYea, I agree with you. Slipcovers are my answers right now. But it's not as nice. A woman from Africa once asked me, "Why is furniture so expensive in here (in the USA)?? And most of it's not even real wood!"
secret_agent, thanks for the info. I didn't see anything hateful.
They don't stock furniture in the UK, but aside from the ethical reasons given above, I don't tend to shop there as their home department tends to be cheap stuff marked up, without so much as a repackaging, at hefty prices, and the cynicism of it just depresses me. It doesn;t surprise me that these pieces are poor quality.

Oh! I detest Rick Santorum, but I love White Dog Cafe! I don't think lab director is from Philly or he/she would understand.
I have the Jet Set ottoman in blue...its actually much more of a greenish/blue. It's a big wobbly which is ok on a rug, but on hardwood it is a bit noticable. But the color and the fabric are so unique I still love it!
I have the velvet tufted ottoman in a purple color. It took forever to arrive and it was backordered twice. When it finally arrived, it was super cute and nice quality... but not the color on the screen at all! Deep/bright purple as opposed to soft muted lilac. Oh well. I waited for it so long I just kept it. I think it will resell on Craigslist pretty quickly.
