These vintage hardware and fixtures can most likely be found in your area. Sometimes the Habitat for Humanity ReStores have a special area set aside for antique finds. Here in Portland we are lucky to have such gems as Hippo Hardware and The ReBuiding Center that specialize in antique home goods. A quick Etsy or Ebay search will give you more options than you'll know what do with. What practical antique items have you used in your home?

I am buying a house built in 1910 which was retrofitted with central air sometime in the past 5 years and one of the first things I want to do is replace all the vents with antique (or at least antique-style) registers instead of the generic finned ones that are currently there.
I have two sets of those vintage green and chrome drawer pulls and one set of red and chrome ones. They're from a house built in 1926. Some of them have been painted over, and some have paint splatters. Anyone know how to remove the paint without damaging the plastic or chrome?
