Just imagine how many IKEA coffee tables could be kept our of the landfill if someone made them beautiful and functional again. That's sort of what Purpose Restoration is doing ... taking old, unloved pieces of furniture and turning them into works of art.
Jason Fox, the designer behind the Purpose Restoration workshop, wanted to do something more creative, so he left his job as a designer of BCBG stores and began making "recycled furniture with a graphic edge."
We love the magic the team worked on this old-school dresser. It's amazing what new hardware, a coat of paint, and some creative vision can do for a piece of furniture.

Beautiful! I saved this dresser from a landfill: http://craftscafe.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/before-after-chest-of-drawers/ but may try this concept next. Thank you!
Nice job....and yes i'm with you on just taking an antique dresser and giving it new life with some paint and a set of new knobs. There is nothing better than a Solid Wood dresser with large drawers to hold all your belongings. Most new dressers today mock the style of old antique dressers yet there are often not made of wood and cost more...What's wrong with people...
I think the problem with the Ikea furniture is that it disintegrates if you have to move it. Real wood furniture doesn't get thrown into a landfill as frequently as Ikea furniture. Also, because most Ikea stuff is laminated with weird plastics and whatnot, paint doesn't seem to stick to it well.
