The owners of these cleverly concealed beds make do in small homes: One family of three lives in just 409 square feet. Their decision to hide the bed increases usable space, opens up living areas, and in one case, creates a magical childhood sleeping nook.
1. Look above Mad Men's Vincent Kartheiser in this photo — that's his bed hanging from the ceiling. It's on a clever pulley system that allows him to maximize the living space of his 580 square foot home (spotted in Dwell).
2. Anthony Gill Architects helped one family maximize their living space with a beautiful partition to divide rooms and hold belongings — including a queen bed.
4. GoPlans designed the second bed in this small home in Camogli, Italy so that it closes up to create floor space during the day (I'm assuming the door locks into position at night...).
5. This gorgeous 500 square foot London apartment (from JJ Locations, via Gizmodo) turns the bedroom into a statement piece. It's suspended in a wrought iron basket that hangs above the office and below a retractable glass skylight.
