It's not often that we have the opportunity to chat about anything very scary on Apartment Therapy (ok, aside from the occasional bedbug and a few ghost posts). So, when someone sent me the link to this going-viral photo of a sofa with a hidden creepy face, I jumped at the chance to go a little "fright night" on this friday evening.
Take a close look - it might take a little bit to locate the face, but when you see it....eeeek!
Now, take a peek behind you, make sure there's no one lurking in the shadows and have a good weekend, everyone!

White Enamel Four-P...
I thought the weird thing about this photo is that the floor lamp has two shades on it. Weird, right?
@scottieg: i know! before i saw the face i kept looking at the lamp shades thinking there was something scary there. :)
So freaky!
Personally I find the decor in this photo to be scarier than the face!
I kept looking at the patterns of the sofa...that is creepy! I think I saw something like this in one of my nightmares. (:O
Typical decor of an HGTV Rate My Space submission. They really could use a few demons over there.
Um, I have several projects over on RMS...
So do I, actually.
My Facebook feed got overrun with this-- I honestly don't see it. (aside from the horrific decor, of course).
The face is looking at you from underneath the pillow in the corner. It is creepy!
Lol @ the double shades! The decor *is* pretty horrific, but if you have ever sat on one of those couches (I think we all have), they are super cozy....
As for the demon, is it in the lower left-hand corner? Hope so- otherwise, I can't find it?!
I love Emma Stone, but the face reminds me of her , if she was bug eyed
is there an ape face on the pillow?
Is that a pug under there?
terrifying.... literally jumped
ugly room, then the face distracted me. Until it felt like a mirror of my own looking at the decor.
Thats what I get for getting on the web during my lunch break - I dont need coffee tonight.
I love a good scare, so I'm afraid this doesn't really go far enough....
I thought it was funny. Peekaboo! There's a grownup playing hide and seek, LOL!
HOLY ISH, THAT IS SUPER CREEPY!!!!!
I was seriously not seeing it at all, then I did and my heart skipped a beat. I literally shuddered!
Puleeze! I thought there was going to be a face in the sofa pattern not photo shopped in. I agree with other posts..the whole decor and lamp shades are much scarier. LOL! :)
I literally screamed!
The lamp shade! The sconce! The upholstery! The fringe!!!!! Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrhhhhhhh!
It's a photo shopped distorted image some strange person uploaded, its not the image but why it was done that is scary.
Oh, it's just photoshopped. I thought the couch itself was possessed. With a pattern like that, anything's possible...
Looks like a face from Lord Of The Rings.....definitely creepy. But I agree, the room trumps the face in scariness!
I thought i saw it in the first place, you know there is a face in the pillow but then i really saw it and jumped.

Thank you comicgeek. I couldn't find it without your clue. I find the face kind of sad though...don't quite know why. Maybe it's because it has to live with the double-shade lamp...
Oh, he looks kinda cute, or, is it a she!
I was forewarned the first time I saw this photo, and it still made me start.
humph!! looks a lot like my super cosy sofa! :P
Not photoshopped. If you look at the buttons on the other couch, then you start to see what it actually is. Though, that doesn't make it any less creepy to me.
I've seen another picture with a hidden face, where the face was hidden amongst brush in the woods. Lots of trees and leaves on the ground. Now that one startled me not this one. Pictures like these seem to be the big thing on the internet right now.
@Ellenpasta, but why is the button there, on the interior back of the sofa? I just figured it was photoshopped. If you enlarge the screen, it doesn't follow the pattern of the other buttons/nailheads either.
Creepy, regardless!
@ellenpasta @surfjack -the nail heads? I don't see any buttons. What IS it really? I don't understand what buttons have to do w/ that creepy a** head.
Pretty sure anyone with a working knowledge of photo shop can recreate this exact image. Some say it's not photoshopped, but as for me, I'd bet that it is. I don't see any weird buttons, I just see a faux-horror image done with layers and gradients.
I think it's just the owner of that horrific decor hiding in shame.
It looks like Homer Simpson to me.
The fright this gave me is sooo the opposite of "therapy"! And my sister is damaged! LOL
That is just weird...it took me a bit to see the face...I couldn't stop looking at the weird lampshade thing either....lol.
Oh dear, the Daily Mail. But it really did make me jump - took me ages to see it because I was expecting it to be something to do with the patterns on the sofa. When I did spot it, eesh.
Someone tweeted this photo a couple days ago. I had no idea what I was supposed to be looking for. Searched for so long and still didn't see it. Now I know it's a face, and I finally found it with @comicgeek's clue. Would have been scarier if it didn't take so long to find!
Oh dear. Not creepy at all to me, just looks like shadows + the fabric doing whatever it is doing. The bad cushions are creepy though.
I don't care if it's photoshopped or not: when I finally spotted it I couldn't scroll the page up fast enough to get it away. Eek!
If it wasn't for cosmicgeek I'd be fine right now! I can't even pretend to be cool about this. It totally scared me! Even more than the double shaded lamp.
ugh i still don't see it. is it in the middle cushion?? where is it?
The face is hiding from the rest of the room....I'd be under the pillow too if I had to haunt a house with that horrible of a decor.
Not scary. If it's not Photoshopped (my vote) then it has to be a prop of some kind.
My screen is so dark in that corner that it's nearly invisible even if you know it's there.
Took me forever to find it, but now it kind of looks like a little dog hiding under the cushions. I wanted it to be frightening, but I just feel kind of bad for it.
