With mobile gaming gaining ground (Angry Birds, anyone?), it's no surprise that popular gaming retailer GameStop would want to get in on the action. What is surprising is that they're going to begin dealing in mobile hardware. That means they're selling iPhones, iPods and iPads—and giving you in-store credit for your old iOS device trade-ins.

Upgrading to iPhone 5 in October? You've got more than a few options for unloading your old phone. While recycling programs and donations are noble causes, we won't fault you for wanting to recoup a little dough. Why not take advantage of GameStop's new iOS trade-in program?

As of this week, GameStop will begin offering trade-in credits to anyone willing to part with an iOS device, such as an iPhone, iPod or iPad.

Credits are good towards the purchase of merchandise at GameStop locations, including gaming consoles, game titles and, presumably, other iOS devices. GameStop is rumored to begin selling iOS gear with the launch of the iPhone 5 in October.

It's a good system for anyone who wants to make an under-upgrade (such as trading in an iPhone 3GS for a refurbished iPhone 4; you'll likely only have to spend a tiny bit extra to make that move) or a gamer who's looking to unload a dusty junk-drawer iPod in exchange for some credit towards a new console.

Of course, GameStop warns that "trades with case damage or unsightly scratches, personalization or engravings will not be accepted," so you'll need to have well-loved and preserved tech to take advantage of the trade.
