We admit, we were a little confused at first when we came across these "garden truffles," as they looked so much like a regular ol' box of chocolates. Not so! The Garden Bon Bons are actually handcrafted balls of clay, organic compost, and seed, dusted with natural pesticides like ground coffee and cinnamon. Give them as a gift, or put them in your own garden or indoor container.
The key to the Bon Bon's success is to find a sunny spot and place them on top of the soil (don't bury them), and water, just as you would a regular seed. They'll start germinating in a week or two.
Apparently seed balls are a centuries-old planting technique. The compost provides nutrients to the seeds and the clay holds it together and helps protect it against insects. They'll also keep for a few years if you want to hold off on your planting.
