Gemma's room has been a great deal of fun to assemble. Although I have always meant to send photos, I have delayed for nearly two years because her room is a work in progress.
In my mind I can still see a number of improvements to be made before it is "complete" (for example, her antique bedside table has water marks on top and is a very dark stain - I would like to cover the top with a funky fabric and a custom fit a piece of glass to both lighten it and add practicality). Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), I have learned that her room will never be "complete", because it is evolving with my ever-growing child.
In addition, I purchase many items second hand. It took a year and a half of patient stalking to find the Pottery Barn dollhouse bookshelf on our local Craigslist equivalent. As a military family living abroad, our time here is coming to an end - packers will be arriving soon, and it is therefore time to take photos in order to remember what was.
As renters, we were constricted by white walls. I am a color person, so it was important to fill her room with colorful things. We did not choose a nursery "theme" - instead we filled her room with things we love. The result is a room I love.
Her room is my favorite room in the house. When I look at it, I see love and happiness collected the world over. There are odds and ends from my own childhood, blending harmoniously with newer items purchased especially for her. Many of these newer things have been purchased throughout Europe, because I have tried to buy one item from each country we have visited.
