Recently I stumbled upon a men's clothing store called General Quarters. Though store owner Blair Lucio has great taste in clothing — I was more interested in his salvaged and re-purposed approach he used to decorate and set the tone of the shop. I am always impressed when a homeowner or business owner successfully reuses found objects, deserted scraps and things that are considered "broken".
Blair's interest in Americana is evident in his clothing and in the environment he built around it. The retro Mobile gasoline sign he pulled off a barn that was closing in Connecticut. Not only did Blair build the shelving and dressing rooms himself, he managed to source each piece of furniture and the fixtures all from salvage yards and flea markets. The engine on display in the crate was from a wrecked bike that had split into multiple pieces, but he felt it belonged as part of the decorating scheme lending even more authenticity to what he wanted to achieve visually.
I love his use of the raw wood planks in various stains, and how even the clothing displays are made with industrial piping and old machinery parts. Last but not least he has created an awesome black and white photo montage of various collected images. This is an idea that really can look good in any space, in any size collection. He's matched simple black frames, of each photo — ranging from film stills to family snapshots.

MORE INDUSTRIAL DECOR:
• Philip Sumner's entire DIY approach to refurbishing his loft, was inspired by salvaged wood, bringing an element of warmth to his otherwise very large industrial loft.
• Artist Dante McCarthy makes gorgeous wood tables and benches out of reclaimed wood.
• This credenza at Croft House is entirely constructed of reclaimed wood and steel.
• Russell Brown found a way to build his own industrial bookshelf, that adds to the dark and moody vibe of Poke Acupuncture
• Lauren and Danny's entire idea was to design Stag Hair Parlor, based on the concept of beauty and refurbished materials. Their whole display case and shelving system is made of used wood, old crates and metal piping.

I love love love the General Quarters store design. Amazingly smart and inviting.
General Quarters is my favorite store in Los Angeles (my husband's too)! Blair is such a friendly guy! Stop in and say hello and while you're at it go up to the cool reclaimed wood counter and smell the candles- you wont be sorry! Manifest Destiny candles come in the most amazing scents. I picked up the Hunter’s Reign candle which is bourbon, moss, leather, and pouch tobacco. It is soooo amazing!
I'm not much of a motorcycle guy, but I like the look of the 2 bikes in the pics. wondering what they are...oh, and the style of the shop is great too.
So where was he salvaged from?
i'm liking the vehicle... that's sporting the blue shirt, brown pants, and tennis shoes best! ; )
Big yes to industrial salvage decor: "manly, yes; but I like it too!"
You're spoiling us AT. A couple of weeks ago it was the guy who lived in the Airstream trailer, this week we have the salvaged furniture guy. Thank you!
Like the look of the store but I'm starting to wonder if AT is making the "cute guy in post" a regular feature.
Zed, my guess on the bikes are an old Triumph and maybe a Ducati Monster?
Nice haircut
More like this please!! Love it all! Thank you!
Chinadoll - I'm okay wit' dat!! :o)
