Name: Gene
Location: Downtown — Brooklyn, New York
The design in our apartment is focused on art first, furnishing second. I have a passion for collecting large format geometric and hardedge art from 60's and 70's. Displaying large format pieces in a small apartment creates an interesting space.
We live in downtown Brooklyn, where there are a lot of new luxury condos. We chose a building that had less bells and whistles, but with the large savings, we were able to make changes and add details that are more to our tastes; including glass walls to let more light in and new kitchen and baths.
Thanks Gene!

Awesome place. Loving the mix of the gloss and the glass textures.
Is that rug a Flor product? Brings great color and great durability!
ok, someone is goofing around with the tiles. in the second and third pictures you see portions of the same rug. in the third picture the three tiles that you can see are not the same ones that occupy that position in the second picture. then do you have to move some of them to the baby's room when you are using that room?
Seriously, mrsyow? Those are two completely different parts of the room, and I thought the part of the novelty of Flor tiles was to move them around?
House tour please!
Intriguing. I second house tour request.
Seriously, I'd LOVE to see more!
You've achieved a Rothko warmth with a Kelly edge. Beautifully done. Sophisticated. High end. Welcoming.
The "Color Splash" treatment, neutral base with a color theme (e.g., chocolate brown with turquoise pillows, vases, accessories), is trendy and how most people use color. Your use of color is well curated. It isn't easy using that many colors in a cohesive manner.
The Bolle Bottles by Tappio Wirkkala are stunning. Great eye. Wonderful taste. http://www.mossonline.com/product-exec/product_id/30032
Well done. Je love.
i hope you didn't spend a fortune on those nesting tables :-x while they are exquisitely beautiful, i saw them wholesale just last week for $1100 something...
Gorgeous, I concur, house tour please!
La Fonda del Sol FLOR tiles.... I love it.
There is A LOT of $$$$ in this apartment w/ furnishings. Not a bad thing. To me, this whole place is great w/ beautiful pieces everywhere.
Couch by Martin Visser for Spectrum.
... and I spy the Poldersofa by Hella Jongerius
Sleek, pretty, clean, and colorful! I saved this post in my folder of bathrooms that I may copy. Thanks!
Everything is just so lovely!
rachbomb---where can I get those nesting tables wholesale???
I love the Poldersofa. It is just fantastic. I also want the house tour!
LOVE it. full house tour, please!!
I love this space...it just speaks happy to me! The nursery is especially cheerful and I love the use of the pastel circles art. It brings a lot of "pop" without being childish. Great job!
mrsyow... what?
House tour please! I love this place. I love everything about it. I especially love the La Fonda del Sol rugs and the fantastic orange dining room. *Sigh* so beautiful. I definitely want to see more.
Very nice place? is that custom cabinetry hung on the walls? What color did you use on the walls?
*Very nice place!*
*Sigh* Such a lovely home. This is what I think of when I say I want a 60s modern decor. This is what my house wants to look like when it grows up.
What a beautiful home. Please do a full house tour.
I absolutely love this home. I just don't understand why you only post a few pictures. We absolutely need a full house tour!!!
Gene - can you provide any information on the art above your blue couch / crib? Simply stunning. Thank you!
Hi this is Gene and Heidi, thanks to all for the kind comments. I didn't really think they would post my submission as is so didnt really put a lot of thought to the text but will be a bit more in the full tour.
Quick answers to some of the questions and comments:
@ chicity1126- The cabinets are Besta Burs from ikea :) There is actually a lot of ikea mixed in my decor, but sometimes harder to spot.
@billyRes- Thanks love the metaphor :)
@miamilori (and others interested in the Albers tables) best place is ebay and craigslist. I got 1 set from there for around half off, and if you check allmoderns clearance section, I was able to pick up a second set at a steal for close to 65% off.
@nycpuggirl-The artwork above the blue couch is the 16 Constellations series by Max Bill. If you google it there are plenty of great detail shots of the series on the web.
I'll be happy to answer any additional question once the full house tour is ready.
Thanks!
