The petroleum industry doesn't typically conjure images of smiling children, sunday walks, or play dates. But this park is here to change that... Made from recycled and repurposed elements from the oil and gas industry, this colorful playground is as resourceful as they come.
Architects Helen & Hard designed this new action playground off the coast of Norway to mimic the topography of the Troll field, one of the largest gas fields in the North Sea. The architects applied the industry's geological and technological expertise, as well as their production methods and materials to an activity park aimed particularly at children. Materials taken from abandoned fields, offshore bases, and scrap heaps make up the landscape of this 1:500 scale replica of a typically unfriendly landscape for children.
Dwell Magazine featured this industrially whimsical playscape in their July/August issue, currently on newsstands. We love the idea, the resourcefulness, and the outcome of this innovative Geopark!
