Gesture Based Remote Control

A Harmony remote it is not, but this concept is interesting nonetheless. Australian engineers Dr Prashan Premaratne and Quang Nguyen have developed a device that sits on top of the TV in order to monitor the hand gestures of a user situated on the couch. Simple gestures such as a clenched fist or thumbs up sign mean power on and channel up respectively. While the utlimate goal is to have this technology incorporated from the factory into televisions or other appropriate devices, we can't see this crossing from novel to practical.
