One of the best things about holiday shopping is going out to the shops where all the stores are decorated for the season and enjoy being immersed in the styles of each store. It's one of the things shopping online staring at box after identical box of models and clothes doesn't offer. This year many retailers have released iPad apps do bring a better shopping experience that you wouldn't get at a physical store or on an ecommerce site.
We've talked about how our love for shopping has migrated from physical stores to our computers and now to devices like the iPad. It makes sense that this holiday season we'll be spending much of our gift buying browsing through a tablet instead of store windows. Here are our top three favorite experiences while browsing for holiday gifts on the iPad.
Nordstrom: Nordstrom is one of our favorite department stores and we've been quite pleased with their holiday catalog. They've been doing a good job this year with their seasonal catalogs, starting with the September 2011 segment. You can flip through the pages, tap your favorite items and see a drop-down menu of all the items displayed on that page. We like seeing huge photos of each product, just like the print catalog, but like the fact that we can instantly check the price and make a purchase even more.
Sephora: The shopping experience was a good one with the Sephora app because it's well connected to social media and the Virtual Mirror option made turned following a makeup tutorial into a fun experience. Sephora definitely offers one of the more interactively engaging shopping experiences when it comes to testing out products and learning about them.
Anthropologie: Out of the three, the best tablet shopping experience was with the Anthropologie app. You can go through their latest Lookbook and select the items you like in the photos. One of our favorite features in this app is the "Sorts & Kinds" page where you can swipe through different tops, earrings, bottoms and dresses to build an outfit and purchase that look when you're finished. It definitely takes all the capabilities of an iPad and puts them to use to create an interactive and fun shopping experience. We never thought we'd have this much fun holiday shopping without leaving the house.
