Ah, Memorial Day weekend ... the unofficial beginning of summer. You know what that means? It's time to set up the grill and start cooking outdoors! Check out these options for small space and balcony grilling and get set to fire up the barbecue!
1. The HotSpot Notebook Charcoal Grill from Brookstone is a portable option that, when folded flat, will take up minimal space when not in use. $39.99
2. The Bodum Fyrkat Grill from Crate & Barrel is not only small but, with its array of colors, it's adorable, too. $59.95
3. OK, it's not exactly small but this Kenmore 3-Burner Patio Grill from Sears is certainly handsome. $239.99
4. Who says you have to camp to use a camping stove? This Primus Profile Duo Stove/Grill Combo from REI would be great on a small balcony or fire escape. $129
5. What better way to save space than have two items in one package! The m_iGrill Gas Grill from Target is a combination grill and speakers so you can jam while flipping burgers. $143.99
6. Another folding option is the Esbit Foldable Barbeque Box from LL Bean. Not quite as easy to collapse as the HotSpot but the handsome stainless steel finish means you may not want to fold it at all. $89.95
7. The Patio Pro Charcoal Grill gives you all the comfort of a standing grill but at a fairly small size - just 31" wide. $77.30
8. Sur La Table's Lodge Logic Hibachi Grill is a cast iron alternative to the camping grill. $129.95
9. It's an herb garden. It's a grill. Stop! It's both! The Hot Pot BBQ from Horne looks like a simple herb garden when not in use but pop off the top, fire up the coals and start grilling. $124

Sorry, the Weber Q beats them all. A michelin starred chef I know uses one and we LOVE ours. Gets hot quick - super easy to transport.
I agree with Mama Gigi, I've had my Weber Baby Q for 6 years and love it. I use it at home and have taken it on picnics.
I'm not sure how red and lime-green qualify as "an array of colors" for the Fyrkat. I was expecting an entire rainbow or something. Eh, well, I'm off to google the Weber Q.
Weber Q or bust.
I checked out the Weber online. It's really not yhe same sort of grill as those disciussed. Not something u could use on fire escape, tiny balcony. My Weber is wonderful but meant for a FL style lanai.
I hate to disagree, but the best grill I've ever used was a PK. I'd never heard of them or seen one until a back yard cookout with a school buddy where I took my normal post as grill master. The PK quickly became my favorite. http://www.pkgrills.com/
And they have a cool history http://www.arktimes.com/arkansas/portable-kitchen-grills-built-for-the-long-smoke/Content?oid=2203509.
Weber 320 Q with those iron grates... I love it...
herb garden and grill in one? no thanks. but i'm looking for a small grill, so this post has been helpful.
Can we talk electric grills? I have a lowes brand "perfect flame" grill that is legal to use on our condo terrace. It isn't nearly as good as my smokey joe was, but does an average job. I needed to add a stovetop smoker to make up for the lack of charcoal when grilling some things. You just can't beat hardwood smoke on grilled meat.
I believe electric grill are hard to find, and my assumption is most apartments or condos prohibit open flames on decks. So can the apartment therapy staff or members compile a list for us limited by law or condo and lease aggrements?
@ko2 did you try googling the bodum frykat? it's available in black, white, green, orange and red. that seems like a fairly wide "array" of colors (for a grill) to me.
As something of a novice, I invested in a cheapo bucket-style BBQ last year to experiment with but the weather changed before I got to use it. Now that someone has found the switch marked "Summer" and flicked it on, I shall have to fire it up and, if I'm bitten by the BBQ bug, then I can go shopping for something a bit more 'upmarket'!
Just used our lime green Fyrkat for the first time yesterday. Worked like a dream and so bijou.
I can't believe you missed Son of hibachi!
