When drink tubs aren't busy livening up your party, they can organize and declutter your home during their off-time. Rather than stuffing them in the back of a cabinet or closet, use them in the living room, entryway and more with these ten tips! Getting more use out of things you already own is a budget friendly way of living green.
1. Organize magazines and books in the living room or bedroom.
2. Hold bundles of yarn or craft supplies for quick grab projects.
3. Keep it by the fireplace as a wood bucket.
4. Set it next to the sofa as a bin for holding cozy pillows or blankets.
5. Keep the living room floor free of toys by using it as a toy bin.
6. Keep shoes or slippers organized in the entryway.
7. Prevent a wet mess by using it to hold boots in the mud room.
8. Grow an herb garden by clustering potted plants in it (cover the top with moss for a finished look).
9. Hand wash delicate laundry.
10. Keep the trunk of your car tidy by using it as a trunk organizer.

Thanks! I have exactly this sitting in my living room and didn't have a clue what to put in it! :) I think I am going to try the blanket and pillow idea setting it by the couch. Excellent!
I use my as a recycle bin.
Living in southern California I tend to have lots of pairs of flip flops. I use mine to store that and some slippers in the closet next to the shoe rack
We keep ours in the backyard (upside down) most of the time and let our toddler play in it when we are in the backyard!

This isn't really a decluttering idea, because then when you need to use it as a drink tub you've got to find somewhere to put all the things you've been storing in it. Plus, unless you would otherwise throw them away, using them for things in your home (which you probably already own and have some sort of place already) isn't any more green than storing them in a closet.
This goes along with #5, but my housemate and I use a tub to help keep the common spaces of the apartment clean-- in addition to dusting, vacuuming, etc, we put into the tub whatever clutter we find left out (random pens, magazines, the odd sock). That way everything gets contained in one spot, and either of us can check there first if something we need gets cleared away. Every six months, we completely empty the tub so that the things that have stayed in there for months go to their proper places in the house or get purged.
This article seems to assume that everyone has a drink tub. What the... ?
