Would your kids love a play kitchen for Christmas? Would you like to make it yourself? We know, you're thinking, "It's already November and I don't know how to build anything anyway." Let Jane guide you - she's made several over the years and is hosting a virtual Play Kitchen Build-Along!
Jane has been making play kitchens, largely from salvaged furniture, for a few years now to raise money for her church's homeless lunch program (remember this cute pink one?). She's learned a lot doing it and is the perfect person to guide you through the process with weekly tutorials. In her words, "There is no need for people to feel they have to live with either huge plastic play kitchens or spend $$. Plus, kids love it when their parents make them something."
Jane's goal is to help you make a play kitchen before the Christmas holidays. She's already in week two so you have a tiny bit of catch-up to do, but you can do it! You can join her Play Kitchen Build-Along on her blog, Out of the Crayon Box. Here are links to her intro post, Week 1 (gathering materials) and Week 2. Great idea Jane!
If you build along with Jane, we'd love to see your finished project - just upload a photo to your Flickr account and tag it with "Ohdeedoh."

I've been wanting a play kitchen for my son for about a year now (he's 2 1/2) - he loves his IKEA pot set & helps me in the kitchen all the time. But we have NO ROOM for anything like the size of that oven in the photo. I saw a great idea to create a 2-burner "stove" by transforming a plastic storage container (his measuring cups/spoons & pots can be stored inside and he can flip it over for a pretend stove). Great idea - fits our space and budget. Sorry, kid. When mommy gets the Viking, you can have a huge play stove. haha...
