this trend needs to climb back under the rock it came from. i will take the bentwood chair though...
I like neon, but... well, I don't like the traditional version of that chair, but the pink does actually make it more palatable.
I like neon as an accent, but only as an accent.
Or not. As an occasional indulgence, neon can work, but as a trend, no thank you.
A lot of people got all offended by the Elle post on what trends are out for 2012 but I think those type of discussions have merit. I think there is value in understanding the difference between trend and style, whether it be in fashion or home design. This post is a perfect example of a trend. Trends become ubiquitous in a short amount of time. They are in and then people tire of them and then they are out. I would never dictate what people should buy. However, I do think consumers should make educated choices with their money. Personally, I don't want to look like everyone else. Also, I want the things I buy to last for years. Good style is about expressing yourself. It is not about copying the lastest thing. That said, if you love the latest thing and want to buy it, then buy it. Just understand the difference between spending money on something that is in fashion for a moment and something that will have style forever. So yeah, I guess neon is a trend for 2012.
I really dig a flash of neon in a room -- though I mostly keep it to posters or easily repainted items, since I'm sure I'll move on to some other colour obsession in a few years.
Neon in small doses is a good thing. When you do a room full of neon, it starts to look cartoonish. I do love that pink bentwood chair.
Using neon in home decor is all about pairing it with the unexpected otherwise you end up in 80'ies hell. I painted my walls and ceiling a dark dusty greyish blue and used neon as an accent around the room by painting small plastic lizards neon yellow (http://ploefff.wordpress.com/2011/12/01/1-december-laver-vi-brocher/) and picture frames neon orange (http://ploefff.wordpress.com/2011/12/08/dagens-dont/). It looks super cool because the neon just intensifies the small item and makes it that more noticeable.
