This cozy little sleeping nook from Lori & Ken's Modern Calgary Home is simply accessorized with a stripe wool blanket that is both subdued and colorful at once. As Canadians, the blanket shown is most likely an authentic Hudson's Bay but there are a few other options for this classic style out there. Check out five options after the jump...
- Vintage Striped Wool Blanket from Free People $168
- Revival Stripe Blanket from Faribault Starting at $279.50
- Glacier National Park Blanket from Pendleton Starting at $198
- Hudson's Bay Point Blanket from LL Bean $379
- Hudson's Bay 4 Point Candy Stripe Wool Blanket from Oregon Trail Outfitter $259

how about an affordable option? do any of those exist...?
My husband and I have the queen size Glacier Park blanket from Pendleton on our king size bed. It doesn't drape down the sides or anything like I wish it would, but it is sooo comfy and cozy. Love the colors on it, too. Best wool blanket I've ever bought! :)
molly h - these often show up at thrift stores so keep looking!
JC Penney has all wool blankets in beautiful patterns and colors. Very reasonably priced too.
Etsy has swarms of them in all colors. I've looked at several myself.
HBC also feels a felt version of this iconic blanket for $40. Its super comfortable, easier to clean, and definitely easier on the wallet as well
*also sells
the fleece version is also available from Lord & Taylor (HBC doesn't ship to the US)
My mom still has the HBC blanket she got for a wedding present back in the 40's. It's in great shape, well taken care of. The "real" ones may cost a fortune but they last.
The vintage ones are almost always more affordable and better made. There's one for sale at the Portland Flea-for-All in Maine, for any locals: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=466048983443257&set=pb.303896886325135.-2207520000.1362442174&type=3&theater
How come none of the links for the Hudson's Bay blanket is to...well... Hudson's Bay?!? The throw is is $150. And that's in Canadian currency, folks, not beaver pelts.

I have the Hudson Bay throw, it's the warmest thing ever. I would have got the blanket, but my husband hates to be warm (!), so the throw is on my side of the bed only. I'm thinking of getting another one so I can use it on the sofa.
If money were no object, I'd cover my entire apartment in them.
Yes, they're more expensive that those crappy micro-fleece blankets they give away at Macy's, but the quality and warmth are beyond comparison. I think people are too used to cheap, low quality, replaceable items.
Wish there was a cotton version for those of us in the south. I love the look, but it's rarely cold enough here to sleep under wool.

I prefer these wool blankets to any other. They are affordable, and handmade! You can even tour their mill. I'm a wool-fanatic, and these take the cake for me.
There are fakes too.
I bought the HBC fleece blanket for the couch because I was afraid of spilling drinks/snacks on the wool one. It's so much cheaper and easier to clean. The wool one is a worthwhile investment though.
I adore wool blankets and I got a throw in Scotland a few years ago that is on my bed all the time. I don't like synthetics at all so it was worth the extra cash. I keep my eyes peeled for used ones all the time; I also toy with the idea of getting a bunch of old sweaters from Goodwill and cutting them into squares for a sewn blanket.
I remember HBC blankets from my grandparents' house when I was a kid - scratchy! ;) They used to go in between other blankets so as not to scratch you, but there was always that little bit that poked out at your neck or face in the night.
Woo,the wool blanket is so good.the feel must be nice.I want to buy a bed like it.I like somethings about handmade.

Just had to throw this in the mix. Knitted one for my friends' baby and it was a hit at the baby shower. Have the materials on hand to make another for myself. (I'll get around to it someday!) ;)
@eclectorama
that is gorgeous! a good friend is having a baby and i haven't been able to think of what to get her. i can't knit but my sister is proficient, maybe she can do me a favour.
Last time I was in The Bay I was really impressed by their HBC Collections. Very classy. Particularly the mugs, dog coats and bowls and the children's sweaters. Very well designed. Very historic also.
