It's time for the annual Perseid meteor shower which is peaking this weekend. It's the perfect weekend to sleep under the stars or - if you're already up in the middle of the night with a baby - enjoy the show.
The best viewing is predicted to be on Saturday night through Sunday morning in North America. Scientists predict as many as 100 shooting stars an hour. I'm not sure what, if anything, I'll be able to see from my home in Brooklyn because of all the city lights, but I'm going to give it a go. If you live in a rural or even suburban area, you and your kids have a better shot at seeing this annual display.

I got out a little late, and it was cloudy. But, I did see one meteor. It was bigger and brighter than any I've seen, and stretched across the sky. I can't stop thinking about it!
We watch the Persied meteor shower every year on our annual camping trip to Camano Island, WA. This year, our 5yo was old enough to stay up with us and see it - it was a real treat!! http://www.liayf.blogspot.com/2012/08/parental-approved-shooting-spree.html
