For any part time or full fledged crafter, keeping an organized space can be one of the most challenging parts of being creative. Who wants to sit down and unwind with your favorite hobby when the very environment is enough to cause a panic attack? Check out these great home craft spaces for organization inspiration and get ready for creativity to strike again!
Whether you have just a small corner of your home, or a whole room dedicated to your crafting hobbies, you can be organized and productive in your creative endeavors. Here are some tips from the photos above:
- Turn a closet into a crafting haven. Just using some portable storage pieces and utilize shelving to organize your supplies.
- Create stations for each activity. An area for sewing, a space for paper and glue, and even a space for the kiddos to join in.
- Keep supplies in separate and labeled compartments. If it gets too cluttered for your piece of mind, keep everything stored under a table and hide the visual chaos with a pretty piece of fabric or the ol' standby- doors!
- Utilize vertical space! A wall mounted shelving system or pegboard will do wonders for keeping supplies within reaching distance.
- Old typist trays make great organizers for stamps and other small items in your crafting collection.
- Corral paint brushes, pens, and other tall tools with pretty jars and baskets. They will make your space more visually inspiring, and also keep your tools in a handy reachable location.
- Hanging fabric and other large scraps can be more effective to sort through than keeping them piled in baskets or other difficult to navigate spaces.
- Be sure to keep inspiring art and past projects on your walls in in your sight to keep you motivated to create new things.

Shaw's Original Fir...
What great ideas! I use a lot of antique mason jars to corral ribbon, thread spools, beads, etc. They look great and make it easy to find things.
Love them all! Definitely going to steal some of these ideas :)
I obviously read too many blogs -as I was clicking the pictures I thought 'Ooh! That's Mandi's! That's Rachel's! And Elsie, and Danielle!'
Maybe I am a bit mad.
I'd kill for my own craft space but having just a bedroom to call my own makes it sooo difficult... here's to moving into my own place this year!
I did something similar in our previous home when I had a dedicated craft space. Now I've had to cram it all in a closet until I can figure out what to do with it.
Source for the rug in blogger's workspace? :O
Lunchy, I am right there with you!
lepidoptery- the rug in the first picture? It was purchased from Urban Outfitters two years ago, so I'm sure they don't carry it any more.
Thanks, amanda.
I like that craft spaces usually are colorful. I think the beauty of the colors stimulates creativity.
I want a dedicated art studio! Meanwhile I have to share the dining room (with dining!!) Since we eat out a lot, I could probably make a mess and leave it, but that drives me crazy, so I craft less. (sad) However, I do have some IKEA Expedit units with drawers and doors to hold a lot of my supplies, and some Billy shelving (think china cabinet) with glass doors on top holding my collectibles and wooden doors on the bottom holding more craft supplies. When everything is put away, it looks like a china cabinet and a buffet -- the room is admittedly too crowded, I'd remove things if it were on the market, but I can live with it being tight and tidy until I get a better craft space.
There's something so nerdy and awesome feeling about a gorgeous craft room that's organized well. Here's a few of my favorite craft organizer containers: http://www.spacesavers.com/Storage/Crafts-Hobby
