She's cute, she travels, she cooks and now she's got a lifestyle show...
Giada de Laurentiis's newest show, Giada At Home, premieres on the Food Channel on October 18th at 1 pm. We're especially curious if this will be just an expanded cooking show (apparently Everyday Italian's only showing in repeats and will no longer be shooting any new episodes) or whether she'll be sharing decorating and homemaking tips as well. We've made a lot of her recipes to accolades so we'll definitely be watching to see what kind of lifestyle tips she'll be sharing. Hmmm...first Gwyneth, now Giada. Who's next?

Please don't compare Giada to Gwyneth. Giada is an accomplished woman ... Gwyneth, not so much.
i love her. she is so classy & beautiful!
This is EXACTLY why I don't watch the Food Network anymore. I'm a foodie and I don't appreciate all of the "lifestyle" and travel shows that are replacing the Sara Moultons of the world. I wish WISH they would keep this stuff where it belongs -- on HGTV or Travel.
I am a huge fan of Giada. It makes sense that, after several years of "Everyday Italian," she would want to do something different. Her credibility, as a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, is in food and that is why I watch her. I won't watch her if she's doing some type of HGTV design related show.
Ooh yay! I love Giada! I don't think it's gonna be HGTV style. I'm pretty sure the Food Network wouldn't want that to happen. It's probably gonna be cross between Barefoot Contessa (which I kinda really enjoy) and Semi-Homemade (which I LOATHE). Either way, it'll be good... it's Giada!
I'll take anything Giada does over Gwyneth's GOOP any day...
I think Giada is an absolutely gorgeous and talented woman but watching her show I get the feeling she's actually rather stuck up off the air. Of course that's only from the few episodes I've seen and I don't like basing my opinions on tv.
Gwyneth is NOT an accomplished woman? Um, okay.
Guess they always give Oscars to underachievers.
Bleargh--another celebrity telling us how we should live and how, if only we had as much money and taste as they do, our lives would be better. I hope the coming recession will send this type of thing back to the marketing department that thought it up.
I love watching "Everyday Italian" just for the sexy porn music. ;^)
Another Rachael Ray in the making? Barf.
Why do we always rag on Gwyneth? She IS accomplished.
She has an Oscar, an amazing musician for a husband, a great body, two beautiful kids, she can sing, and she seems to have life by the reins and is successful.
Giada cooks and she's beautiful. I'll happily tune in to find out what else she can do, but if we can't call Gwyneth "successful" then what in the world DOES it take to be successful these days?!
wrenx, I don' think they are telling us how we should live. They are telling us how they live and showing you how others live. In most cases, I am exposed to environments and ideas that I might not otherwise ever experience. If I wish to use those as inspiration for your own lifestyle, as I do ideas I find here, that should be fine. But I have never resented anyone sharing new ideas.whether I like them or not. I also have the option of not being inspired or influenced by them. Or not watching the shows, or not reading the magazines, or not visiting new places, or not reading the blogs. As do you. Ultimately, all power is personal.
p.s. I could live with that chair....
I think Giada's okay and if they can give an hour talk show to Rachel Ray (who's no big deal, IMO) Giada can certainly hold her own. I think its possible that she does have some style.
And while I like Gwyneth, that show with Mario is painful to watch and so dull it amazes me. He's kinda creepy and those other hangers on are so pretentious.
Please cancel that one immediately, studio execs!!!
I was wondering what happened to her show. I have major grumbles with the new Food Network lineup. My winter routine is get up, do some cleaning, and chill in front of the TV with my knitting, usually on the Food Network shows. But they've changed them around, and now it's all high energy in your face stuff. Ugh. Have to find more stuff to store in the Tivo.
I like Giada and Gwyneth - all this lifestyle stuff can be either useful or a good laugh. Sometimes within the same show.
Ah, looked at the website. Apparently, it will still be a cooking show, but with an entertaining focus. She did seem to be stretching it to keep things Italian on Everyday Italian at times, so it will be good to see her do some other stuff.
Okay, in defense of Gwyneth's accomplishments ... she learned to play the harpsichord (with a friend of mine, a Juilliard teacher) specifically for her role in "Jefferson in Paris" ... her teacher. Gwyneth was NOT "faking it" in that movie!
: )
I am a big fan of Giada's. Her recipes are doable for the average chef and produce fantastic results. Hopefully the same will hold true for her new show:-)

Giada is great. I love watching her show even though I feel most of her recipes are hard to make.
And her husband works at Anthropology? Maybe they can bring in some fun and arty feel from the store. That'd be cool to watch.
did anyone else see her on that food network star show (reality thing)? She was a judge and man, she was so rude and snobbish to people. It was sort of a "holier than thou" attitude.
I love the chair too, but money CAN buy taste most of the time, I'm just feeling like it'll be one of those "look what you can't afford" shows.
ugh!
Gwenth has to be somewhat cool to be married to that guy in Coldplay, I mean he wouldn't be with a shallow actress type in my opinion, but you never know.
i think they do give oscars to under accomplished people. sadly, it's been happening more and more these days...
in bocca al lupo, giada!
Geez, the reason why most of us love AT is the opportunity to observe how other people live, exchange ideas and learn about something new.
I don't see how these shows on tv are any different excluding the lack of interaction.
However, I do agree on Giada.
It is sooo painful for me to watch her for some reason.
Maybe I am just jealous, I wish someone would give me my own show and producers and writers and designers to make me look superior to the rest of the world, and on top of that pay me.
;0)
I"m glad i don't have tv anymore! These shows have too many commericials and are just too much of the same
Is Giada's show called "Giant Head, Small Spaces"? If not it should be. Her head is a virtual planetoid.
She irks me in the way that Paige Davis woman from Trading Spaces irks me. She can't be that chipper all the time. Give me Nigella Lawson any day. I love how sometimes she's seriously hungover and slobs about in sneakers and sweats. Giada looks too perfect all the time.
I find Giada kind of fake and a little annoying. Plus every seems to center around some kind of boring pasta dish. At least she's not as annoying as Rachel Ray. Who eats dishes that are either hamburgers or half cheese every night?
I miss Nigella!
Oops! I meant "every *show* seems to center around some kind of boring pasta dish."
Must have dozed off thinking about it...
so giada and the countessa are not the same person? oh... well if we're having a competition between giada and gwyn, gwyn wins hands down:
great actress fabulous style brad's ex mr coldplay chill attitude v pretty chef
i am surprised that she is having a "lifestyle" show, but wtvs
I miss the old Food Network, the one with actual cooking.
But on a side note, it must be tough for Giada, you know, haulin' that gargantuan cranium about!
What a bunch of haters. Excuse me, but your jealousy and close-mindedness is showing. You talk about her acting snobby and "holier than thou" and here you are judging her by a small fraction of what you see of her on tv. YOU give me the impression that you are snobby. And as for "another celebrity telling us how to live", a previous commenter nailed it. You don't have to watch the show, but maybe there are people who like to see how others live and are open to ideas that are different from their own, ideas that they may never otherwise have been exposed to, which is why we have those lifestyle shows (or even cooking shows themselves! Don't tell me you watch those cooking shows and think "oh yeah, this recipe's nothing new to me") and sites like AT. Maybe you would learn something, or at the very least build up your own self-esteem a little bit more, if you spent less time trying to bring another person down.
Personally, I think that it's nice that she's always cheerful. I don't think I would want to watch any show regularly if they were always down in the dumps, especially a cooking show. It's food! How can you possibly not be happy when it involves food?! She does seem to be a bit type-A but that just adds to the amusement of her show, just like the porno music does (tho I think barefoot contessa is way more porno, especially the earlier episodes). Also, I must agree with the gigantor head, tho I completely understand the whole lollipop-syndrome...sometimes it can't be helped! :-D
