LEGO crazy at your place? The Southern Hemisphere's biggest LEGO Christmas tree has just been built in Sydney, Australia! Here are all the stats, and links to plans to build some LEGO Christmas trees of your own.

The tree is 10 metres tall (33 feet) and is comprised of 500,000 LEGO and Duplo bricks. It took approximately 1,200 hours to build. The tree was so heavy it had to be formed in parts, and finally constructed on site. It lights up, too!

For more info on the Sydney Tree, including video footage of the tree being built, check out this video clip from local Sydney morning show program Sunrise.

The tree is the second tallest in the world, the tallest having been built in the UK by the company Bright Bricks, at London's St. Pancras International Station. This tree was 12.2 metres high, and comprised of over 600,000 LEGO bricks. It was also adorned by 1,200 "baubles" made by local school children.

Inspired to try a little LEGO Christmas tree building at home? LEGO builder Chris McVeigh has designed his own LEGO Christmas tree guide, for which you can source the pieces at your local LEGO pick-a-brick store. You can download the guide here. Of course, it is much, much smaller than the other trees!

Alternatively, LEGO has brought out a few Christmas tree sets: notably, the Winter Village Toy Shop set, the Decorating The Tree set, and a few LEGO creator sets (1, 2, 3 and 4). All of these are retired now, though you might be able to source them online on Amazon or eBay.
