That Fisher Price record player is too difficult for kids under five, in my experience. I have yet to see a kid suceed with it - it has to be 'on' on the bottom, the front knob has to be fully wound, and the 'needle' arm has to be lifted up with the grip of death to swap records. (I, however, really enjoy it!)
Music Together CDs with the songbooks get a ton of use. Remo floor tom-toms are super loved, from little babies on up. And this style of tambourine with beads sandwiched between clear panels for the littlest!
I like the idea of kids making their own music, but my son has this CD/karaoke player and loves it. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. The sound quality isn't the best in the world and it takes a lot of C batteries, but he loves it, and even sings duets with friends which is priceless.
Love that Elizabeth Mitchell CD.
My one year old loves her toy piano and went gaga over a full-sized keyboard we saw at Costco. She also loves her shaker eggs from the dollar bin at Target.
