Inspiration for my palette:
I'm a Caribbean girl, and nothing makes me happier than the warm sun shining through the tree canopy or a happy glass of papaya juice or lazing on a hammock while watching the sun set over the ocean. I wanted my apartment to bring me back to these special places every time I open the door especially on dreary cold winter afternoons. I wanted to stay safe with the wall color "just in case" the landlord changed his mind about letting me paint. I found a gallon of "oops" paint at the local Restore and mixed it with 2 parts white and 1 part canary yellow to achieve this warm beige. The accent colors, from the couch slip cover to the throws, just happened to draw from the same palette accidentally. The canary yellow bookcase was a DIY Ikea hack utilizing leftover paint from the wall experimentation. It always brings me tons of joy each time I look at it.
Colors used in my room:
Canary yellow, green, orange, beige and blue accents
Tips for using color successfully:
Follow your gut, pick things that make you happy and do NOT play safe. If your landlord won't let you paint, or you do not want to fuss with painting back to white when you leave your rental, explore accent colors. Most importantly, explore and trust your aesthetic. You want your space to reflect who you are and make you happy. Finally don't worry about matching. It'll all come together cohesively.
