Name: Giovan & Chloe
Location: Fabric District — Los Angeles
We’re a newly married couple living in our dream loft in beautiful Downtown Los Angeles. Our loft was originally an office space with no shower or kitchen, but we loved it so much that they threw in some cabinets, appliances and a shower to call it a living space.
We moved in just over a year ago – March 2010- and have enjoyed every moment of making it go from a loft to our home. Being newly married, we’re on a tight budget with lots to save for, and I pretty much refuse to buy Ikea-so most, if not all of our furniture are thrift store, estate sale, and curbside finds. Most of them we didn’t even have to refurbish as they fit our color scheme perfectly, and I value imperfections.
Our main area of concern when we moved in was the closet space (or lack thereof) – as this was originally an office it supplied only a small coat closet which we use for our cleaning supplies. Once again, being on a budget and not wanting to shop Ikea, we were left with one option-to build our own closet. Though it’s only been about 80% done for the last several months, we were both impressed with Giovan’s new found woodworking skills…which led to a DIY bar, shelf, and library card catalog cabinet turned coffee table.
Thanks, Giovan & Chloe!

That's a lot of stuff for newlyweds. By your fifth anniversary you may need a bigger place!
But very cool stuff.
WOW! very fun and funky! (in a good way!) Love the eclectic mix. :)
And being in that neighborhood means its a quick dash down the street for curtain fabric, a rug, fresh flowers, a crazy zoot suit or Starbucks! I love that neighborhood, I've shopped there many times.
I love the stripes on the poles! So cool!
I'd love to see more! House Tour?
I had a TV very similar to this. I miss it. :)
I like the mix, but what's with the ikea snobbery?
I'd love to see that kitchen from up close.
clear delineation and lots of function-area - love !
Very nice,, I was trying to figure out if this is a 70's style place,, I love the big room..lots of open space,,,looks very cozy too.. you can do alot of imagination with it..But I'd loose the bottles on top of the tv set..Nice old console..Circa 70's...
I really LOVE how original and cozy it is :) I have a penchant for broken in leather couches... So nice!! Having said that, Ikea does have some really cool stuff that is pretty reasonable...
An Ikea rug would probably have a better pile than the one in your living room (looks like the hall runner I got at Garden Ridge for $45, which I love but it isn't as plush as I wish it were).
That being said, love the vintage flair meets uptown in this home!
I "get" the wine bottles on top of the tv. Dates back to the 70´s when people used to burn candles in wine bottles and then let them drip down to create art. You don´t see it much but it reminds me of the beloved 70´s so I like it.
i love these space very cool the things ppl can accomplish by refurbishing furniture and old items
it look GOT NO WORDS love it
