Another one of our fabulously crafty readers, Jacqueline, sent in this before photograph of a glider she received for free from a family member. Check out the stylish transformation below the jump...
Voila!
Jacqueline told us,
"I got the glider free from a family member so I couldn't turn it down. Definitely not my style but I can be pretty crafty. Here is the before (pine with brown-grey tweed cushion). And my completely reshaped and slip covered version (with back zipper so i can remove to wash as needed). On to the next project for the nursery."
Nice job Jacqueline. We definitely want to see your next project as well!

That is amazing! I would have run the other way from the before piece, but that after is great!
Wow! This is the best glider transformation I've ever seen!
Great inspiration Jacqueline!
-do you have a pattern
-do you know how much fabric that used?
-did you add extra padding?
That's wonderful--I was thinking I'd click through and see a wood glider with a nice cushion. But that looks really modern and stylish. Those wooden gliders feel great but they're so ugly. With that picture, you could buy a used glider from Craigslist and either make the slipcover yourself if you're handy, or have someone make it for you professionally and probably still come out ahead of the game. Jacqueline, you're amazing! And if you wanted to make a few bucks, you'd probably have a long list of customers if you started selling them on Etsy.
WOW!
Thanks for all your comments! I didn't use a pattern but i cut roughly shaped pieces of fabric first, then pinned and tailored as i went. i used a lot of extra padding (foam and batting) as well as some thin masonite board to square off the arm and back. I don't know if i'd have time to sell them on Etsy though --- not with the baby on his way :-). thanks again!
Oh- it took about 4.5 metres of fabric.
So jealous. I also got a free glider and it looks very much like the "Before" photo but I've resigned myself into just having an ugly-assed glider. I wish I had sewing skills . . .
!!!!!!!!
I have never seen one of those gliders look so good!
Wow. TERRIFIC transformation. The best I've ever seen...
Brilliant -- you deserve a medal for this!
Does the chair still glide?
loved the transformation and would like to know where you attached the masonite board...
Wow wow wow! Great and bravo!
Wow! I agree with the above posts that anyone who can make that happen could definitely make some money selling them.
I echo all of the others' compliments. . . stunning transformation!
This is wonderful. I have been looking for a DIY like this so I was pretty excited to see this posted today. Thank you for the inspiration!
That is superb! I think this is one of the best transformations I've ever seen - and not just glider transformations. ALL of the "before and afters" on this site. Wow. Well done!
Perfect timing! I just received a nearly identical glider from my step-mom and was wondering what I could do with it. I feel so inspired. Now, if I can only follow through...
This is just a guess, but it looks like long rectangles of masonite were used on top of the curved arms and to redesign the curved back into something with square corners.
wow!
Wow. THis is an amazing transformation!! Looks great!
Jacqueline, how does it feel to sit in now?
okay, totally going crazy over this one! had to sign up to comment and everything :-)
So, I love what you've done with this glider so much that today I went to the salvation army and there without missing a beat, was the glider. Grandma looking and slightly dirty but the frame in perfect shape. I thought of this amazing transformation and thought... I can do that!
If you are interested, I would love to write a bit on you and perhaps get you to do a little "How to" for a publication.
If nothing else, I'd love to know my self. Thanks!
This is really great. Why don't they just make gliders that look like this anyway??
I hate to just repeat everyone else--but this is really incredible! :)
thanks again for all the comments. to answer some questions, yes, it still glides -- i put little pleats at the bottom corners by the feet so it allows for movement. if feels really comfy to sit in actually. more padding that was there before.
to Glamslam, if you'd like more description of how i did it, i'll try my best to describe and maybe send more photos of the slipcover unzipped so you can see the underneath (my seams aren't as trim and as they could be tho :-). you can email me at jacq@rockpaperscissorgraphics.ca.

To Glamslam, sure, i'll try to describe more on how i did it if you like and maybe send you some pics of the thing unzipped so you can see the inside/underneath (the seams aren't finished as neat as they should be tho :-). you can email me at jacq@rockpaperscissorgraphics.ca.
OMG!!! I was literally trolling the internet last night for a cushion replacement and was saddened by what i found. This is gorgeous!!! Anyone want to make one for me? Or know of a good seamstress/upholsterer in bklyn that could hook this up?
Best transformation I have seen, hands down!
Please please post instructions for all of us! It will save you lots of emails. ;)
Hi everyone,
I've gotten lots of requests for instructions so I'm going to try and describe what I did, with some more photos and post them up. Check back in 2-3 days for the link :-)!
Oh my, I would be thrilled if you posted the info. While we no longer "need" the glider, I don't really want to part with it, but I loathe how it looks. Will be thrilled if you post it here.
Congrats on a great job!
Hello again.
I've posted a loose summary of what I did to makeover my glider. This is not a pattern, or super detailed instructions but just a basic summary of what I did. I hope you guys find it useful and good luck!

wow! Maybe when you outgrow nursing in it, and want to get rid of it, i could by it off you ;)
It looks lovely, but I wish you had kept the rounded chair back of the original.
But, that's just my taste.
Great job!
WOW! I had to register to comment as soon as I picked my jaw up off the floor. I have a glider that doesn't fit well with the rest of my furniture and I've been wondering how to fix that...what great inspiration you are! Thanks for sharing!!
thank you. your genius instructable just saved my budget and nursery decor!
WOW this is amazing.thanks for this.
I just found one that looks nearly identical, and picked up stuff to begin. Wish me luck. Mine has an ottoman, too, so this will be a project! The fabric is in the dryer at the moment.
