What if the only piece of furniture you needed in your apartment was your rug? Or rather, a Land Peel? This insulated floor mat with padded support, aims to be not only your home office, your small dining room table and sofa to kick back and watch Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. Could you do away with other pieces for a transforming rug?
Now, having looked at quite a few small apartments as of lately, we're actually pretty into the idea of a rug that pulls not only double, but triple duty as well. Although breaking free of the traditional schools of thought when it comes to a conventional table, sofa and desk might be rough, we can see where this floor pad would really come in handy. Just image moving day? If the only thing you had to move was a rug and a few boxes of housewares? No more 5 flight walk-ups with a vintage sofa that weighs as much as a bus... just a rug.
The Land Peel is the work of Japanese Industrial Design student Shin Yamashita and though it's not in production yet, it's been receiving rave reviews since it's release and we're sure to see it surface in stores soon (or we hope so anyway!). Make sure to head over to DesignBoom to check out more photos of this cool piece in action!

Although I can't use these, they look like fun home furnishings for those who are limber and slender!
I love this! I have lived in a lot of studio apartments, and I end up using my bed as a desk, couch, place to chill out with friends, etc. Having a separate space to do these things would be great. After spending so much time in my bed, it's often hard to sleep in it. Neat.
Hah! I immediately thought, "I bet this would do great with Asians," and -- sure enough -- it's designed by Japanese.
I certainly would like to have one in my home.
I can see this working well in a kids' play room. Very fun!
Yeah... FYI, there are chairs in Asia.
Amazing! I wish we'd seen this before moving into our tiny apartment and filling it with furniture!!
Perhaps a kids playroom, but not to live in all the time. Also, what's the the Jaime Oliver plug? Seemed to come out of nowhere and really had nothing to do with this post.
And where are the hordes who will question the cleanliness of this rug? In a home with pets, I'll say no, thanks, but if you love it, go for it.
No, I wouldn't use this...but I do love the concept.
