I hate cooking. These kitchens are mostly bleak enough that I would NEVER cook. (Rainy day Gray...) They are nice enough looking, but being surrounded with gray while doing things you aren't into would be too much.
I don't cook much either and I keep looking for that POP of color that the gray is a backdrop for but most of these kitchens don't have any. I think that gray would be lovely with a bright green or bright pink but by themselves they just look like pictures taken in poor lighting.
I have to disagree. I love both kitchens 2 and 10 -- although I would consider the slate color in 10 a blue rather than gray.
I find many of these calming but if going monotone, rich textures seems to help delineate and bring some life -like those in 1 and 7. Prefer pops of color that you can change & aren't permanent, like plants & kitchen accessories. But I am digging the balance of gray & wood warmth of #4. Nice.
Some of these are lovely, in my opinion, but gray is hardly "off the beaten path" these days. Everyone and their dog is painting everything gray, and color-related professionals agree we've moved from "the brown trend" to "the gray trend" in the past few years. Nothing exactly new here. :)
About 8 years ago, I got fed up with my long, narrow, ugly, dreary galley kitchen. I painted all the walls fresh white, the cabinet doors lime and turquoise, and the countertop lime (melamine paint). It still wasn't quite right. Then I remembered seeing all these long narrow spaces on a trip to NYC, where one long wall was often painted black. It really made the wall disappear, making the space seem wider somehow. I couldn't do black, but I did do charcoal grey, and it not only had the same effect, but also looks amazing. :) I love grey in my kitchen, though I think ALL grey would have made it more dreary.
These are all really great. I don't think colour palettes need to be obvious; when you put together many shades of grey you start looking at the subtle nuances and your eyes tend to spend more time looking around. Conversely if there is one large red thing in the room, your eyes settle on the bright object and then you stop exploring. Grey on grey on grey is more thoughtful, comfortable. I like this collection.
These aren't bleak at all! They're wonderful! I would gladly cook every day in all of these.
I LOVE number 3!!
I like the combination of the dark, smokey grey with cool white marble and stainless steel in numbers 2 and 10. I love having grey in my kitchen, it's very calming.
I like the light, warm gray in #3, though I'd do it as a wall color (in fact, I may) behind white cabinets, and primary-colored accessories.
If you're looking for a nice, versatile gray color, we just painted our kitchen with Baby Elephant from the new Clark + Kensington line of paint at Ace Hardware. We're very happy with it. Gray looks good with naturals---we have some oak cabinets that I hate, but the gray actually makes them look better.
I agree with the first comment-- these all look very bleak to me.
Eh, some of these look a little washed out to me. But I do like the ones that have something else going on to contrast the grey, such as wood, exposed brick, or a pop of color somewhere. Warms them up a bit.
I really wanted to get gray cabinets in my new kitchen but chickened out. I went with white and painted to walls BM Stonington Gray, and have black and marble counters. The floor is hardwood with a walnut finish. These kitchens are all gorgeous and soothing....I love them-definitely not bleak or dreary.
Always thought I liked kitchens like 1, 2, and 8 best, but I'm liking 3 the most out of this set.
Always love a good stony grey though! Reminds me of sitting under a dark waterfall on a cool, cloudy spring day. I can just smell the moss growing.
These kitchens are all beautiful. I think the colour grey represents luxury and at the same time is very clean/neat. I would not get bored of any of those kitchen as grey is a neutral colour and you can always subtlety decorate the space with bright kitchen appliances or even flowers and it would constantly look different.
Is it possible to get details such as paint color used? I love the paint in kitchen #2 with the cat!
A empty nesters :) we repainted all the wild kid colors out of every room in the house... Except the kitchen, which is the hardest room to take offline for a reno. With the living room all calm and yummy in chocolate brown & warm cream (think brownies & vanilla ice cream), I am eyeing the kitchen, currently two shades of green; yellow, & terra cotta, and looking at greys and soft whites. With fiesta dishes in blue, green, & orange, that will be plenty of color.
This feature is so helpful! We know we're succeeding, because the young adults come home and love our refreshed, grown-up home, and we feel like we've moved into a new place!
