Whatever your choice, metallic accents look great in any room and on any object. Although they're flashy, they can easily function as neutrals since they complement most colors. Or get crazy and mix the two for an eclectic look. Even a touch of either gold or silver will add pizazz and perk up your decor.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Bronze.
Brass
I envy the person who has the bathroom in image 7. It's gorgeous. I like the way the shaped marble backsplash for the tub continues around the door as a frame, and then as a baseboard...although I would have made the baseboard higher and probably put a quarter-round on the top edge, over a row of the marble mosaic (or stick?) tiles on the floor. I like elaborate baseboards in a bath.
Both! I can't choose. I've always loved mixing different metallics, in jewelry and accessories as well.
That first photo was my inspiration to find a large goldish/bronzey mirror to go over my fireplace. I posted it here and finally got the beastly thing hung up (in the background of the last photo here). I still love that gold and gray combo.
SILVER all the way.. it's so clean, modern and timeless.
i used to really be into silver, but my new love is antique dark copper.
I love to mix it up - in the bedroom we have gold accents, in the bathroom it's silver, and throughout the house everything is tied together with black or oil-rubbed bronze. Sounds a little busy, but it works!
Silver. That last bathroom is so beautiful.
Both! Sometimes it depends on what it's going with. I like gold against muted colors and silver on brights. They compete less.
Silver, silver, silver... I grew up in and visiting waaayyyy too many houses with tacky, awful brass or gold details that it's pretty much turned me against that for life. Ew.
I prefer bronzes or brushed nickels, antiqued metallics also.
Always thought you couldn't mix metallics until recently, I've experimented in my craft room and quite like it. I've got oil rubbed bronze, matte silver and small punches of gold going on in there. It's fun.
@Amandasg, I agree. Gold reminds me of spending time at the homes of old relatives and friends of my parents. When I see gold decor, I can smell moth balls and cigarette smoke.
I like honed metals of all sorts. As for color, I'm partial to metals that are inbetween silver and gold. Pewter would be my choice if I had to choose one.
Just remembered my favorite metal to decorate with....TIN!! Pewter is a close second though, it's just more expensive.
Silver and copper, especially the really pink hued copper. The gold is just a bit too bright for my taste.
I have slowly and systematically made every metal accent in my house polished chrome. Started with a couple of midcentury lamps I got that I love- then I thought, well it matches this "vintage" fire extinguisher I have set out in my living room.. then all the bathroom fixtures.. then hinges and knobs and.. etc etc. I REGRET NOTHINNNGGGgggg.... *sploosh*.
Silver, but I love a deep gold like the mirror in the first photo.
I used to HATE anything gold toned, for my home or jewelry. I'd always go silver, nickle, or pewter. Now I love gold or brass (outside of ugly 80's hardware), especially with a nice aged patina. I think it goes with the overall migration in my taste from sleek and modern to a warmer eclectic vintage.
Copper 4 Life! ;)
It was gold for a long time. A number of years ago, gold stuff looked more 'substantial'. Silver colored items looks like aluminum foil.
My choice now is stainless, nickel, pewter and other subdued versions of white metal.
Chrome
All of the above. I love to mix metallic tones. I'm really into brushed brass. Check out the gold accents in this project.

I love the combination of gold and silver together. Most of my jewelry is two-tone and many home accessories also.
I also love the "new color" that is a combination of gold and silver --- it's twee-ly referred to as "gilver" but it's a lovely color --- a warm goldish silver. Almost like a blush color.
All of them. I have a mix of gold-colored things, silver things and copper and brass on the top of one bookcase. There's a mix throughout the house.
Basically, I buy what I like and sometimes that is gold and sometime silver and sometimes copper. They all look fine when mixed up together.
If it's always my choice (e.g.: something new), silver. If it's not my choice (an inherited piece/vintage find that has everything else going for it), then I make myself get over it, lol.
Polished Chrome. :)
Mixed, no brass. Beautiful.
Different in different rooms. Silver in my bedroom and the master bath, bronze in the guest bath, and a mix of a few things in the main living area ... some silver, some gold, some pewter. If I had a more defined color scheme in there I wouldn't mix metals, but as it's an eclectic area anchored by a bright kilim rug, the varied metals fit the overall feel of the room just fine.
I love all metals that are aged and patinaed, especially pewter and bronze.
Brushed nickle for a lot of fixtures and lighting, antique bronze for a bunch more, gold leaf for some picture and mirror frames, silver leaf for a few more... I like an eclectic blend.
Gold can easily look tacky.
I used to be a purely silver kind of gal, but I'm all about mixing silver + gold now.
Good old professional, industrial stainless steel. Loved it before it was hot, still love it now that it's trending down.
Tarnished, beaten up, hammered aluminum, tin, pewter, silver. Oh, and cast iron anything.
Gold! Silver seems too rooms to go or something for my taste lately! Plus I am a warm bodied person in Florida and gold is more like the sun.
Anything BUT gold. In decor and jewellery. Gold screams leathery tans, chunky chains, cigarette smoke, foil wallpaper, eighties excess and men with bad moustaches. I know it's coming back around, but having seen the horror the first time, just no.
Silver
both, im bi-metalical lol
brass, gold...
Copper -- I recently put up copper foil-backed glass tile as the accent strip in my bathroom, with cabinet hardware in antiqued copper, and plumbing/lighting in dark reddish bronze. Where copper isn't an option, silver all the way. I never liked gold, and I hope I never see brass again.
Old silver and nickel with some patina and gently curved items of polished aluminium ;-)
GOLD ALL THE WAY!!
Anything silver toned. don't like anything at all in the gold end colored family.
I love mixing metallics as well. I prefer gold and pewter, then the rest. However, I'm not a big fan of silver.
I like both. However, I'm glad to see the long reign of white medals waning. I'd love a beefy parsons style dining table in brass or gilt wood. I'm not sure about what kind of top to go on it. Any Suggestions?
