You're probably looking at the images above and thinking to yourself, "What the heck am I looking at?". Especially that jellyfish shaped contraption that could give young children nightmares for years. UK broadband provider TalkTalk wanted to challenge Goldsmiths, University of London to come up with some pie-in-the-sky ideas of what internet routers in the future may look like, with four specific features in mind: signal strength, home style, energy efficiency and pure enjoyment...
Routers represent a passport to one of the greatest communication revolutions ever – but you'd never know it from looking at them. Working with the design boffins at Goldsmiths, we wanted to transform the humble router into something that people would want to shout about. With the very first Routers of the Future collection, our vision of making the router an integral part of our customers' lifestyles and interiors comes to life. – Mark Schmid, Director of TalkTalk Group
What the team from Goldsmiths came up range from very feasible to downright weird: the time based Route O'clock, the furniture-inspired Hybrid Router, the green minded Energy Saving Router, and our favourite, the Jelly Fish router which glows and pulsates according to signal strength. We're sure you've got an opinion about these concepts, so why not let that opinion be heard and help choose the best design of the bunch by voting here.
