Q: I have a 600 square foot apartment close to Lake Michigan that I have been slowly painting as my budget allows. I am using beachy colors. The living and dining rooms are a light greyish blue, the kitchen is dark aqua and very light (almost white) blue, and the hallway into the bedroom/bathroom is a greyish pink. I started painting the bedroom in the same pink shade and planned on an accent wall in mauve, but I later decided the pink was too blah and painted 3 of the walls in mauve, keeping the pink as an accent.

I have very neutral furnishings in the living room and, except for a wrought iron bed, nothing substantial anywhere else. (I moved cross-country a couple of years ago, leaving everything behind, and have been buying things on my very tight budget ever since). My question is about accent colors — specifically, what can I use in the bedroom (the bathroom is the same color scheme) that I can carry out into the rest of the home? There is so much to choose from, and I am completely stumped! P.S. The pics are thepink/mauve combo shown on adjoining walls.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Charcoal grey, grass green
Keep the beach theme going..different shades of blue, corals, white, silver and gold.
Kathleen ,you have found the right website to get support. I am new to AT,but one can go from one log to another acquiring so much information. I have even added my 2cents.
Now, your dlimi ..I have learned grey is the new white.
Also, you have a blend of pretty colors, open the blinds, shades, etc. so you can see how the color looks in the different times of day. That does make a difference.
It appears as you walk through the house, one will have a calm feeling. Don't obscure it with too many accessories. Keep us posted. RAA
Accent, I'd go with a green, but only because I think of seagrass. How saturated you want to get with the color is up to you, I'd keep it a clean green, though. And I'd pay attention to your trim color. I think trim is where you'll end up either going bright and airy or too muddy. You want a nice, bright trim, with maybe a hint of yellow.
I agree with threeacres. A nice clean green color for accents and bright trim would be beautiful. Accessorize with sliver, gold and porcelain.
So far your colors seem like basic pastels and light neutrals, so my first reaction is that you need some contrast. Dark wood or charcoal grey would do it. These might seen counter to your soft beachy scheme, but they'll help bring focus into what it otherwise a sea of shades that blend & blur into each other.
Also, decide what kind of beach look you are going for - tropical like Tommy Bahamas or Hawaiian or weather-worn & white-washed like Nantucket or crisp Mediterranean Greek Islands beaches or something else... there are lots of ways to work a beach theme. Search in Google Images for "beach decor" "vintage beach decor" or "modern beach decor" and you'll get inspirational picture. I found these from houzz.com: http://www.houzz.com/photos/mediterranean/beach-decor-/ls=4
Yikes..much to think about!! Thanks to all of you for the help... I have been thinking a lot about adding some green but was torn between staying with the pastels or adding something bright..Given the comments I'm t am leaning more towards a bright springy green accents and some silver ,...Will keep you posted.
Special thanks to you for these links and ideas..I am definitely more into the Nantucket style vs lush tropical or Mediterranean Although I love some of the Mediterranean and even Moroccan inspired wallpapers and accessories I have seen lately I think you need a little bit more space than I have here to pull off that particular look.Sigh..maybe some day:>).
