We stumbled across this key holder that appears to be wood but is, in fact, magnetized in order to simply "grab" your keys! We love the simple line, the novel approach to a landing pad, and the idea that we may be able to recreate something similar on our own.
Designed by Tomàs Bedós, this key board (available here) mounts right to the wall and snags your keys, or any other metal object, with no hook or latch. We love the look of this, and think it would be a great entryway or landing strip addition.
This is also one of those objects that seems like it would be ripe for a DIY. We have a roll of wood printed contact paper in our closet that may just be waiting for a similar project... For those a bit more expert in the ways of DIY, a wood veneer over a strong magnet could work! We love when design products get our creative mind simmering.

Here are some others. I have the one by Umbra in the Natural finish. I like it because it also holds letters.

We have the Umbra one in a dark espresso color and love it!
Hi romeoandjewles, how many keys does it hold before it gets too heavy for the magnet? That's the only thing that is stoping me from getting that as we tend to have big key chains.
I'm having the same thought as souk1501. I have seen other versions of these that can hold 1 or 2 keys (maybe if you live in a city, with no car and work from home?) but not a large key ring with 5 or 6 keys.
It's a great idea if it's truly up to the task.
If anyone is handy with a screwdriver, and has access to some old hard disk drives, you could harvest the super strong neodymium magnets. I've collected a few and they are strong enough to hold up some of the heavier hand tools in my shed.
souk1501 - sorry for the late reply. My keyring looks like it belongs to a maintenance man :) and it's been fine. It's pretty powerful. It even comes with some keyrings in case yours aren't steel. We've had it up for months now and love it.
