As I've accumulated a boatload of vintage frames during my excursions to the flea market, I've been waiting for inspiration to strike so I could finally take them out of hiding and put them on my wall. Since I have a hard time getting behind a wall of blank frames, I had assumed that I would need to find glass and mats for each frame.
That was until now.
This arrangement from Hus & Hem is all the inspiration I need! I love how the frames are arranged in a tight installation so that it feels like one solid wall hanging rather than multiples placed near each other. And with some photos actually framed and other photos placed within the space of a frame, the variations within the arrangement cause your eye to constantly move about. Still, my favorite element is that fact that many of the photos can quickly be replaced without much time or effort.
Once I find a couple more large frames, an arrangement inspired by this will most definitely be going above my bed.

JESS! This is an awesome photo. I have a nearly identical installation going on in my dining room, with ancient family photos, my own sketches, folk art, and collage - that I change out all the time. As my collection of frames grows, the whole thing changes. It started out as a way to hide the thermostat, and turned into an ongoing project :)
I recently got obsessed with little vintage frames that come with tiny loops attached to the top curve or edge (Here is one of my favorite purchases: http://www.etsy.com/transaction/29681005 ). You hang the frame directly on a nail through the loop or you can use a pretty ribbon or lace to sweeten the look even more.
I removed all pictures that came with the frames to curate a theme but haven’t yet decided what this cluster should feature yet (seriously considering maps of meaningful places – I’m a cartography re-purposing addict… http://papercuthearts.wordpress.com ).
So this morning on the bus I decided that for now I’ll just display them all empty in an asymmetrical cluster. Looking at this collection – I think it would look great as blanks too! Though I like how mismatched the artwork & frames are leaving extra breathing room.

That looks really nice, especially since all frames are of slightly different shades. Personally, I'd like just a thin strip of air between every frame, but I can see why it would appeal others to hang them in tight proximity too.
It's outside the box. Thanks.
I love the frame arrangement, looks magical. It has inspired me to collect frames from my local vintage store and start scoping a blank wall to fill
