We were utterly moved by a recent post by Ashley at Under the Sycamore. Reminding us that the act of giving can be simple and lovely, she shared photos of a party she and her boys threw to collect children's books to donate to a local hospital.
Ashley writes on her blog:
My boys love to read. As a mom I know the joy that reading brings to my kids. Hospital stays are rough and the simple act of reading a new book can bring so much joy to a child and a parent. After reading Heather’s blog I thought my boys could get really excited about having a party to collect books for children in the hospital. So that is what we did.
Beginning with invitations that included bookplates that guests could put inside their donated books, and culminating with an outdoor showing of the kids' animated classic The Cat in the Hat, the book party was a huge success, as the full collection basket attests.
