I always say, my fridge is magnetic for a reason. It's a great way to stay organized, and since you can't see our refrigerator from the rest of the house, I plastered the front with calendars, invitations, and take-out menus. Soon enough, organization was the last thing happening on my fridge, so I tailored it down to just a dry erase calendar and to do lists. When I saw Ez's magnetic tin DIY on Creature Comforts, I thought it would the perfect addition to a beautifully organized refrigerator.

The DIY is very simple, all you need is a tin or two and some magnets. It's so simple, that Ez's 11-year-old daughter came up with the idea! I'm sure you could even use an old Band-Aid tin (and maybe wrap it in some pretty fabric or paper), but I'll be on the lookout for a pretty vintage tin next time I go antiquing.
If you haven't been to Ez's blog, Creature Comforts, you are in for a treat! She shares lots of visual and color inspiration, as well as simple DIYs and free printables.

I'm kinda mad I didn't think of this! Thanks for the idea!

Love this! So much better than some lucite Container Store thing.
Love this! Perfect for little bitty kitchen odd and ends, and the prefect excuse to buy those adorable old tins. And so easy!
I saw this in Martha Stewart, wonder who came up with the idea first....
UGH. I just gave away two tiny tea exactly like the one in the photo above. Why didn't I think of this?
I have a collection of old medicine tins that I have stored away because I decided they were clutter but couldn't bear to through them away.
I will soon have a selection of vintage laxative containers on the fridge door. As a bonus this may encourage us to include more fibre in our diet.
I love this idea. I use to have old tins with Band-aid logo or something like it. Wonder if we still have them somewhere... Thanks for sharing!
my boyfriend says thank you for giving me an excuse for buying more old tins! Hehe :D
For a while I've been using an old metal cigarette tin for my massive collection of plastic store membership card since it grew out of the standard 6-8 slots a wallet has for cards.
Such a nice surprise to find my daughter's DIY post featured here! Thank you so much...and thank you for all the lovely comments too. We read through each one together and it really made her day!
P.S. Kiddofish - our question exactly! My daughter came up with this project last Summer, and Martha's version was featured in this month's issue of Living.
this is great. I have a plastic cup with a magnet on the back I've used for years, and it's ridiculously handy, but this is much cuter.
I love this idea! I was just browsing antique shops this weekend, and saw lots of little tins like the ones pictured. I couldn't think of what to do with them so I didn't buy any. Now I'll have to keep an eye out for them and try this!
@Creature Comforts- your daughter out-Martha'd Martha! someone's gotta do it! I got a buddah on a tin sandalwood box who's movin' off the shelf and onto the fridge TOMORROW! thank her for this!
