Martin Swatton renovated his home himself. The house was originally a pretty typical 1930's bungalow, but his intervention turned it into a contemporary work of open, California-style indoor-outdoor living. The bedrooms, like the rest of the house, are full of good design ideas:
• 1 The main bedroom is in a loft space. The bed floats, but has a substantial headboard that acts as anchor and room divider in the open space.
• 2 A large mirror and spare furnishings keep things simple and light.
• 3 A large expanse of windows is diffused with sheers hanging floor to ceiling.
• 4 In the guest bedroom, a custom headboard of yellow pops against the otherwise white room. Extra (but not space-consuming) bedside storage is provided in a conveniently-located wall niche.
