I'm in the market for a mattress. Does anyone in the great Apartment Therapy network have good or bad things to say about the West Elm mattresses, particularly the eurotop mattress?
Or if there's another place I should be looking for a mattress in Southern California, I'm all ears.

Of all the things to splurge on, we're a big proponent about spending your money where you sleep. We personally don't know how comfortable or well constructed these West Elm mattresses are, but perhaps some of our readers out there own or have owned one.
We personally slumber upon the W Hotel branded W Bed, which is a Simmons constructed hotel quality mattress. Free 3 day delivery for LA residents, and filled with 825 coils for a queen size. We overslept a few mornings in a row when we first got this mattress, so it definitely gets a thumbs up for comfort.

Mattress comfort is very subjective, so we highly recommend a hands-on (or rather, backside-on) test. One person's perfect mattress is another person's backache.

I second the glowing recommendation about the W bed...especially since it's frequently on sale for between 10 and 40 (that's right, 40!) percent off.
The most comfortable bed I've ever been in and it always makes hotel stays disappointing.
Hmm...maybe it's time for a quick nap...

I've got the "Westin Heavenly bed" from Simmons and it's awesome.
I've never tried a West Elm mattress but personally, I'd buy a mattress from people that specialize in mattresses. I don't really think West Elm is an expert in that department. (but keep in mind I haven't actually tried one).
The mattress game is a racket with huge mark-ups. If you are paying anything more than 50% MSP you're getting a ride.
My last purchase was a $2500.00 Sterns and Foster Queen set for $1100.00....50% Off and a floor sample.
Best purchase I've made and worth every penny.
has anyone tried ikea mattresses? they have latex, foam and spring options. can anyone explain the differences and pro/cons of each? also seems like ikea may be more eco friendly than some of the other major brands. not sure. anyone have insight?
I have an IKEA mattress - I love it. So comfy. I don't know which one - I got it a few years ago for something either $100 - 150. I think i t was a firm mattress - maybe Sultan? Anyhow, I just flip and rotate it every few sheet changes - it's held up really well - doesn't seem to have any wear & tear. I also have one of their platform beds with the wood slats - no box spring. My sister has a bad back and she thought it was comfortable too.
Also - I think mine was a coil/ spring mattress.
I'm pondering the DWR memory foam vs. Temperpedic...I'm for the coolmax cover on DWR's version...the dude is convinced we gotta go OG with Temperpedic.

I bought an all latex bed kit from flobeds. www.flobeds.com internet based company with great prices for all natural talalay latex. most comfortable thing i've ever laid on. I stayed at a westin this weekend for work and their heavenly bed is now so un-heavenly.
in no way tied to flobeds, btw...just a very happy customer.
because my "bedroom" is actually a converted laundry room, i had to buy an odd sized mattress to exactly fit in the room (i now have a bed cubby where the bed takes up the entire 'room', its amazing)
anyway, i ordered a mattress and boxspring from 1-800-MATTRESS and its GREAT! you call 'em, ask about what deals they have going on, and they bring your new mattress to your house and set it up so you can try it. if you dont like it, they take it back, no charge.
so i got a firm, full extra-long mattress and box spring for around $300.
then i ordered a king sized memory foam mattress pad for around $70 (and it came with two memory foam pillows!). i cut the mattress pad to the correct size....
bottom line: my experience with 1-800-MATTRESS was really fantastic. i'd recommend them to anyone! (man, i feel like an advert) and oh my gosh, my bed feels SO amazing!
Really? I LOVE my heavenly bed. Granted.. hundreds of different people haven't slept on mine.. that could be the difference.
DWR's Sonno mattress, hands down best sleep I've ever had.
Ikea has rather varying quality. If price matters, their most expensive latex is very well priced for what you get, at least in the Netherlands.
I do not trust their less expensive options. Too light weight polyether foam doesn't seem long-lived to me. And better quality exists - but if the situation is like in the netherlands, make sure not to pay anything near list price.
I recently went through looking for a lot of different matresses, and price was one of the main points for me as well. We eventually settled on the simmons beautyrest, i don't remember what model exactly, from Macy's,and it was around 850, after tax. I know you can probably get amazing mattresses for thousands of dollars, but i'd still say mine is great.
the whole pocketed coils, motion seperation they advertise is great. i don't feel my wife moving around, and she doesn't feel me. we got the plush pillow top and it's like sleeping in a cloud... We miss it everytime we're at home since at both of our parents house they have firm matresses, and it feels like sleeping on wood. Even though ours is really soft it has a lot of support.
i would be wary of the temperpedic and foam mattress until you've slept in them for at least one night. certain ones can feel suffocating sinc they wrap around you. if you don't get the cooling ones, they don't really breath. My dad had one and returned it since when he slept on it he said he felt like oddly floating, which sounds good, but actually caused him to not get slp since it felt unatural. i know some people love them, but they're no for everyone. try one out first.
oh yeah, if you get a thicker deep pocket style mattress make sure to get a slim or low profile box spring, other wise your bed is going to be like 4 feet tall, and if you have a headboard you might not see it anymore...
I just spent over 1000 on one like this---if you are heavier than 175 lbs I strongly urge you to get something more firm. I weigh 190 or so and have been sleeping in a dent for the last couple of months and it's really hard on the back if you move around.
these recommendations are exactly what i need right now.
our daughter had too many "accidents" at night with us.
even though we have a mattress cover that encases the mattress like a zipped pillow case to protect from dust mites, it's not waterproof like we thought.
it's hard to decide whether to change from springs, but the dwr mattresses do seem great.
