Good Question: Older Boy's Bathroom

Kasia sent us an e-mail: "My son, Frankie, who is turning 12 next week asked that we re-do his bathroom. Right now it has a SpongeBob SquarePants theme and I guess it's really not cutting it for a pre-teen anymore. What cool items can you recommend to give his bathroom a teen makeover? His favorite colors are red and black."

Good question, Kasia!

The easiest place to begin is what is often the focal point of many bathrooms -- the shower curtain. We like the Urban Beat Shower Curtain, $28.99, with its funky pattern and great colors. Add CB2's modern Shower Curtain Roller Rings, $11.95, and you have the start of something.

A new waste basket can add a lot to a bathroom, too. The Silver Metalla Can by Umbra, $14.99, is certain to compliment any new curtain.

For a more dramatic transformation, painting will certainly do the trick. Read our Good Question from last week on painting a room black for further inspiration.

Do you have more suggestions for Kasia?
