Good Question: Painting Over Clouds...With What?

We've been living in our apartment for a year now, and finally convinced our landlady to allow us to paint over the cloud mural in the alcove of our living room. WE NEED IDEAS! Allowing us to paint came with some restrictions: no dark colors, and she's very partial to the clouds, so the deal was if we paint over them it needs to be with another design "as good, or better." Shouldn't be too hard — wink wink...

What we want is something simple, something that brightens up the space, but something that pulls attention to that part of the room. So far we've been leaning towards a light yellow or jade, but that doesn't exactly fill the requirement of something comparable to the current cloud design. There has also been talk of an Asian-inspired watercolor branch or flower, but really not sure where to go with that...

Hope you guys can help us out! Adam

What a fantastic space! We're not sure what might be considered "comparable" to clouds but yellow was the first thing we thought. Would wallpaper be off the table? There are some amazing patterns out there that could satisfy the illustrative requirement while being more fresh and modern in aesthetic.

Anyone else have ideas for some "thing" to replace the clouds with?
