Fairfax resident Ted sent us this rug related question: "I live in a recently refurbished Fairfax area duplex with a quandary about what to do about a rug in the dining room. Den and living area have large colorful oriental/Afghan rugs. Walls have colorful art, but I am not sure what to do in the dining room.

The table is a piece of art with a 5 foot round glass top on it and six chairs, all in different colors. I am looking to put a rug in the dining room and looking for something that would be a 9 foot square rug, but cautious about the color of the rug taking away from the colors in the table. Room is a perfect square also, and walls are white. I realize the custom route is what i might be looking at, but what kind of rug?"
Ted, we're equally cautious, as any colourfully patterned rug will take away from the focal point of the artwork ontop of the table and create a visual overload that will just weaken its impression. Have you considered a large circular, single colour rug that compliments the colour of the artwork? Personally, I'd just forgo adding a large rug underneath, as you've already got so much going on with the table, artwork, and different coloured chairs. Perhaps our readers have some other ideas of how to tie in the artwork, a rug and the whole room for Ted?
