Hello AT,

My friend and I just converted the living room of a one bedroom apartment into a 2 bedroom by putting up a wall down the center of the living room. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to put up a full wall since in case of a fire, the sprinkler would not be able to reach the other room.

The wall only goes up to 7 feet, the ceiling is about 9 feet.

Can anyone suggest a way to put something temporary up in this space so that I can have some privacy? Is there a type of soundproof curtain that can be put on a track along the ceiling? Thanks, Jill

(Note: Include a pic of your problem and your question gets posted first.)

Jill, Ouch! Unfortunately, anything good here would be illegal, and you really want to keep the light that comes over the wall if you can. Our optimal solution would be to put up lucite panels in either clear or milky frosted opacity. These can easily be purchased on Canal Street and mounted with 1/4 round wood edging that you can find at any lumber yard.
