Good Questions: Where Can I Find a Shelf to Hold my DVD Collection?

I'm an avid movie watcher and own almost 200 DVDs. I finally found the perfect shelf from IKEA exactly the width of a DVD and with sides so my movies don't topple over on the floor...

Unfortunately, the shelf is 46 1/2" long and I only have about 30-32". Does anyone know where I could find a comparable shelf that would fit the dimensions I need and doesn't cost a fortune?

What are everyone's thoughts on simply putting all your DVDs in a sleek,nice album? Years ago I would have vomited at the thought, but now, I think it would be so much more simple. I think I would keep on display my Criterion DVDs, as the packaging is always phenomenal.

I can box the empty DVD cases and store them in a closet and maybe print up a nice list of my DVD library. I really can't think of many attractive ways to display DVDs, with the exception of some cute metal shelves that Offi makes

Hmm, for some reason I've always had a problem with cds getting scratched up when I keep them in those sleeves. Can anyone suggest a good brand?

My husband put his into a 300 disc changer and put the cases in storage.

Ummm...is it possible to hang the IKEA shelf at an angle to fit the space? It could even be vertical like a DVD tower.

My mom has an extensive DVD library. In the end she bought 2 400 disc changers and then gave the cases away on craigslist. This leaves some room for her collection to grow, but takes up almost no space.

I second Boomer suggestion for those who're technologically incline. Just rent your dvds from Netflix, Blockbuster, or your local library rip 'em onto your harddrive(s). It'll certainly take up less space.

ISS designs shelving. You can build as much as you have space and budget for. I store about 400 DVDs on perfectly sized shelves.

I like the server idea, but so far I've not found a way to do it that is cost effective while maintaining 100% of the quality and ease of use (and I'm a big nerd).
