Thanks! Is there any way to tell if it is an original or some kind of reproduction? Cleaning it is the biggest mystery. I don't want to deteriorate the rope any further, but it has at least one dime-size stain, so some kind of thorough wash down would comfort me greatly. Ideas?

I don't think this chair has been reproduced, so yours is probably an original. Congratulations! (I picked up a pair of these at a second-hand shop for fifty bucks, which isn't quite the score you made, but still, I'm pretty happy about it.)

we have 2 of them, in pretty good shape & clean, it says Yugoslavia on them, so unfortunately they are not original Hans Wegner. This design has been copied a lot!

my parents bought two chairs much like this one, only without the handles on either side of the seat, at pier one imports in seattle in 1967. so, there have been "knock-off's" almost as long as these have been produced.

i recently bought a danish cabinet off craigslist and the folks who were selling it are pretty expert danish mid-c refinishers.. her husband had taken some kind of class on how to replace these rope seats and she showed me some he was working on and they were *amazing.* They had a couple of these folding chairs and a whole set of the dining chairs. Neato!

This guy, featured on today's Scavenger, evidently had his rope chairs redone. Maybe you can ask him where?

elif, I have one that says Yogoslavia on it too. It differs from the original poster's in that it has arms. I found it in an alley and took it home!

I had a copy of the exact chair. It was impossible to clean.
It fell into a black hole in the depths of a closet. It is a great looking chair.

You would have to ship the chair to them, but luckly the folding chairs pack down small and they have folks ship items to them all the time.

Is Veterans Caning still around? They recaned a set of chairs for me a few years ago, and did a good job. Not cheap (at all!), but they do good work. Last address I could find for them:

For those of you who have this chair, is it comfortable? I'm considering buying a pair, but won't be able to sit on one in person.

Potluck: I bought two of these chairs at a flea market today, and I can vouch for how comfortable they are. Which is quite the opposite of how they look. I'm sitting in one of them now, and pleased as punch.

Mine are the Yugoslavian knockoff version, but they seem really well made and solid. The ropework is in great shape except that it's a little dirty. No big stains or anything, but kind of tired-looking. Anyone have any cleaning advice?

@potluck: i don't know if it's because it's used, but it is definitely super comfy. it is the perfect lounging and reading chair. however, while it folds with the air of being portable, it is quite heavy as it is solid wood.

I have two of the Yugoslavian chairs my folks bought years ago. Any idea what they're really worth?

I have one that someone stepped on (can you imagine???), but the back is in perfect condition. I looked at the website listed, but the folding deck style is $750 to repair! Gaaaah!

Oh God!!!! I mostly miss THAT Rope folder chair!!!!! I want damn rope folding chair back badly! My parents bought Danish Modern Rope Folding Chair. I used sitting folding chair all the time, When I was little during 1960's. Somewhat My family and i move to other town. THOSE folding chair brought my old house at the time. We used those for 20 years. My mom wanted rid of it away while I went to the college. I was soo upset because my mom did give it away. I never give up to find my precouis rope folding chair back....
