Dear AT DC,
Has anyone used the Calligaris Eleven (or similar) expanding coffee table? It is a glass coffee table that moves up and down and expands to fit 6-8. Can people sit comfortably around the table given the steel mechanism under the table? Is it an attractive piece?

I am desperately looking for a dining table solution in a very small space with an enormous (75 in x 30in) in-kitchen island that leaves no room for regular dining solution. I have also thought of a 36" x 36" expanding table, but it looks a bit like a fish out of water in the room. Help! Any suggestions?

Dear Coffee Table Crazy,
Calligaris makes different styles of expanding tables (we really enjoy our Calligaris Olivia pocket table). More below the jump...

Past AT posts, like this one, give many convertible coffee/dining table options, including the Mascotte Table and the Hydra Table.
If possible, you may want to see the table you like best in person Skynear and Company in Adams Morgan is the Calligaris carrier for DC.)

Readers: any experience with the Calligaris Eleven coffee table or similar styled tables?
