This should be possible as a DIY piece. Could be made with wedges cushions as in the original, or with the wood pieces in a wedge shape and two flat cushions on them.

Finding a sturdy hinge is the most difficult part, although having a hollow space in the top/back can give a lot of space for the hinge.
