Hello AT,
I love the idea of this Czech chair that folds out into a bed. But since I’m not super in-love with the 50s styling, I wondered whether anybody might know about other versions of such an item?...

is this czech chair still made or available?
I think you'll like this gorgeous chair from Crate and Barrel's fall catalogue. It is called the Oxford Twin Sleeper and comes in two colors. I was thinking of getting one myself.

I own Crate & Barrel's Troy twin sleeper. It works well for my small space and is fairly comfortable as a bed for a guest.
similar concept (ottoman): http://www.modernlinefurniture.com/otbed.html
PB Teen has an ottoman that folds out into a twin bed:

And Ballard Designs has a similar version, in leather:

... as well as a square-armed stuffed chair that turns into a twin:

Cool, but too short for me.
Wow, round chrome tubes on red velour cushions with darker piping. Supremely cheesy. This must have been created by "wild and crazy guys." It is styling I think I have seen in a bowling alley lounge or the basement of the local social club.
And on the higher end, Alfredo Haeberli's Hypos chair:
