I like it and think that it's very cute. Of course, I made my own version at one point with leftover climbing webbing, so I'm biased!

If you like it, buy it. as Chris said, if you amortize it and donate it, it's ridiculously inexpensive.

It is only worth 119 if you think it is cute. If it isn't something you want to look at every day then when you see it you will just think "that cost 119"

i like its shape a lot. i'd put a nicer fabric over it. i envision a lovely pashmina-type shawl.

If you like it, go for it. It looks like one of the more interesting IKEA pieces to me that you'd pay about $119 for. So not a bargain imo, but if you like rockers you could do a lot worse.

Mrs_P, no offense, but what's not to understand? People decorate their homes to please themselves, but also to please others because they entertain and make their homes public as well as private places. It's like fashion. You may wear a Members Only jacket with tongue firmly planted in cheek, but there are people who are genuinely curious as to whether a a MO jacket is generally agreed upon among fashion experts as an example of stunning haute couture. The answer is no, and once you know that, you're free to wear it or not, but having that knowledge makes you more confident of your choice, and there's nothing wrong with that.

You don't mention whether you have actually sat in the chair to test for comfort. If it's comfortable, then by all means purchase it. In my experience, however, I find that rocking chairs take up a lot of space and can be a liability if you have small children. Also, you just might want to think of the practicality of the piece if you are limited with space and budget. Oh – and I'd definitely give it a thumbs up for cuteness.

I don't think this chair is "cute." I think it looks nice and it looks comfortable but I don't think that cute is the proper word here. Cute is for animals and things made in Japan.

I deal with this dilemma all the time where I can't afford what I really want, so I try to convince myself I like some affordable version of it I find. Then I wonder, have I just convinced myself I like it. As far as the chair goes, I think it looks nice, but uncomfortable. And rocking chairs should be comfortable.

Personally, I don't like it. But that's not the question here, it's not mý home (I've got a different taste, that's all, so don't listen to me...).

The answer is: buy. 3 years ago, I purchased a very similar looking rocker with black leather webbing from Design Within Reach for more than $1,500. I love its look and it goes great with our modern aesthetic. It's gorgeous, yes. But the real question here is, is it $1,380 dollars more attractive than the rocker you show here? I think not. Buy it!

binxie, here's what i don't understand — "i can't tell if this is cute." i certainly understand asking if it's a knock-off or an original. but "is this cute?" is asking for someone else's subjective opinion of something about which only *your* subjective opinion matters. if you think it's cute, but you only want to spend the money if it's authentic, okay.

it's the quirky personal choices that make interiors interesting. (just like fashion ;^) i just wanted to encourage tara to prioritize about her own opinion of cute vs. not cute.

ok, jeanvenes! i talked to american signature furniture, and here's the goods on my chair: they still sell it and are still calling it the "arts & crafts lounge chair." it is an american signature furniture piece, item #vc900-270w, but the lady i talked to on the phone at the altamonte springs, florida, location (where i got it when i worked near there) said you cannot buy it online & you have to get it in the store. here is their number (407) 571-0529. good luck! Pretty much. I rarely impulse shop. My litmus test is this: I browse. If I see something I really like, I walk away. If a day or so passes and I find myself still thinking about it obsessively (AND it has a clear place and role in my home), then I go back and get it. Sometimes the item is gone, but then it was obviously never meant to be.

And this is a good point. Here's the litmus test -- if you looked at the chair and your first reaction was "Great chair! I want that chair!", then you want the chair.

If you were searching for more affordable versions of a chair you really want, and you'd already rejected some that cost more, and you looked at this chair and shrugged, then thought, "oh, maybe," then dwelt on the price... you're talking yourself into it.

Reason is for whether you can afford it and have somewhere to put it -- whether you want it is a gut decision.
