Good Questions: Paint Color Advice?

I have a living room and a dining room and I desperately want to change the paint color in both. Living room first.... The living room is too beige for me with the rugs, furniture (though they are on the green side of things) walls, etc...I would love to get a more a feeling of an African safari look going (I know I should get white furniture and get rid of Hong Kong poster) but no more obvious references to Africa, just that feeling....
Considering a light gray for living room...which gray? I forget what the name of the current tan color is.Now for the dining room...

The yellow in our dining room looks great only at a specific time of the day. I'm not so fond of it at night. I also have a new addition to the dining room — a very large round paper lantern now hangs over the table. I love it! I think I would like to go lighter. I adore the crisp white look of Scandinavian/modern rooms but not willing to paint floors or change furniture. Should I go with all white walls in Dining Room? Or should I consider a pale yellow in the dining room? The current yellow is Golden Lab from Benjamin Moore.
Planning on leaving all the trim white as it is already.

Personally, I have really enjoy my light gray living room — Benjamin Moore's Abalone. Anyone else have suggestions?
